I’m not big on opera, but the Grand March from Aida is magnificent music.

I just watched a 1979 performance of his 1849 opera “Luisa Miller” on a big screen TV yesterday. The plot was kind of silly—sort of a dumbed-down version of Friedrich Schiller’s classic 1784 play “Kabale und Liebe”—but the music was great.

Verdi was a genius and my favorite opera composer. But when the maestro was asked about the three most important things in opera, he said,
"Voice, voice and voice."
Bad singing makes the best opera sound lousy. People will go to a poor opera if they have the opportunity to hear a thrilling human voice.
