Texas Executes Lubbock Man Who Killed Parents

A Texas man was put to death Wednesday evening for killing his parents at their Lubbock home 15 years ago during a drug-influenced rampage that also left his 89-year-old grandmother dead. Yowell tried to delay his execution, the 14th this year in the nation's most active death penalty state, by joining a lawsuit with two other condemned prisoners that challenged Texas prison officials' recent purchase of a new supply of pentobarbital for his scheduled lethal injection.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected the appeal minutes before Yowell was taken to the Texas death chamber Wednesday evening. Yowell already was on probation for burglary and drug convictions. He was arrested on federal firearms charges and charged with his parents' slayings after authorities determined his mother had been beaten and strangled and his father was shot. Prosecutors showed John Yowell was killed when he caught his son stealing his wallet. Yowell then attacked his mother, opened a gas valve and fled. The home blew up.

"At some point he's looking his mom in the face, beating her and wrapping a lamp cord around her neck," Lubbock County District Attorney Matt Powell, who prosecuted the case, recalled Tuesday.

The poor guy. The court should have extended some mercy, given that he’s an orphan and all...

Judge Scalia was the one that denied appeal.

I remember when W was guv and TX was fixin’ to execute a murderer from Canada (I believe). I heard Clinton called to ask him to stay the execution and W said if the guy didn’t want the death penalty he shouldn’t have come to TX and murdered its citizens.

Funny part is that the Governor in Texas CAN'T stay an execution (for very long) or commute a sentence without permission from a board.

I am stunned now knowing that the guy at the head of my operating table pumping the pentothal was really just committing cruel and unusual punishment on my patients. The only complaint I ever got was a little nausea, after they woke up. I guess nausea could be construed as being a little uncomfortable.

So my solution would be to not let them wake up.

If they keep making it so hard to get the drug I guess it’s back to the gas chambers.

“I remember when W was guv and TX”

I also remember when some ditz named Carla Faye Tucker was about to face the needle, after bragging during her trail that she “got a nut” as she was killing some guy. She had everybody fooled with her ‘conversion.’ All the usual suspects, plus a few unusual ones (Jerry Falwell) were on W’s case to pardon her.

Nope.

Do the crime, do the punishment. Of course this was back when W was an actual conservative - before that cesspool called Washington got a hold of him.

How cruel! They should have gone easy on him because he’s an orphan.
