Craig Kimbrel is supposedly the heir to Mariano Rivera. In his postseason career as closer, Rivera recorded 27 appearances of 2+ innings.
Uribe bunted two balls foul, ... and then tomahawked a high fastball from David Carpenter into left-field stands for a shocking two-run homer ....
Note that I wrote "David Carpenter" and not "Craig Kimbrel."
The Braves had to win this game. Lose, and they go home. Somehow they lost -- in the late innings, no less -- without using the most dominant relief pitcher in the game.
The sad thing is, Gonzalez apparently didn't even think of using Kimbrel for two innings. "I think six outs isn't something we were even talking about in the dugout," he said after the game.
But whats the difference between four outs and six outs? Six pitches? Ten pitches? And that doesnt even factor in that the Dodgers had the 5-6-7 hitters due up in the eighth and the 8-9-1 hitters up in the ninth.
So instead you lost a game with a guy who had a 6.07 ERA last year for the Houston Astros.
... ".. I want the ball." We'll see if Kimbrel confirms that, but even if he didn't say that, his look of disgust, standing there with his hands on his hips, will haunt Braves fans all winter.
This should be covered in Managing 101. ... Who cares if it's the seventh inning or the eighth inning or the ninth. I'd rather lose with Carpenter in the ninth inning or the 10th inning or whenever ...
Look, managing your bullpen in a structured manner in the regular season is one thing.
October is not the regular season.
Fredi Gonzalez didn't think the best reliever in the game can get six outs.
He ended up getting none.

And I forgot; I will be viewing the remaining games with the volume level at 0.
I’m done with the two hayseeds.
Suddenly I'm not feeling so confident going into Game 3 in St. Louis...
Do what I did during the ALDS and ALCS series... Mute the TV and listen to the WEEI audio.
Who is Mini Fan?
Next Game!
Will Craig Breslow be welcome in 2024? Your fault Maruo, JINXXXXXXXX.
I missed that game, went to the theater with my mother. Cyrano de Bergerac.
That d-bag Olberman filled me in on Sportscenter, he’s decent at sportscasting but should still shut up.
They are both Cards fans. I understand, I couldn’t be neutral if the W Sox or Cubs were playing, but they’re supposed to be “professionals”.
LOL, you've noticed that too, huh? That's probably at Joe Buck's direction... gotta create high drama for the postseason.
I don't mind the high drama, but I do mind Joe Buck's tendency to let his bias for the Cards (and apparently the Detroit Tigers) show through so often during these postseason games.
Even worse than that is the inane commentary by Tim McCarver. There are so many other former MLB players out there that would do a far better job in adding color to these postseason games than McCarver does IMO. Guess we're stuck with the Fox "tradition" though...
aint my jinx ... Farrell will continue to struggle getting from his starter to his closer.
Breslow was a disaster but why was Gomes in the starting lineup? or even Salty?
I like computer baseball better cuz we can replay the 7th with Nava in left and Ross as C. Sox win.
I do not care. I have a campaign that I am happy about. So campaigning beats baseball ... Only thing is, it is unwise to name names on the internet. Cannot see how it does us any good. And many on this site are not too interested in local nuts and bolts ... It is all Washington DC news all the time. Banal. Banal.
PS buy some razor blades. You look like drugged up hippies.
Yeah, I think "someday" he will be. Not quite a stud now, but he's been a bit better in the postseason.
Middlebrooks has been hit-less for what seems like forever. Can't a hitting coach or someone help him? And Drew??
I wish Farrell had experimented with Middlebrooks at 3rd, and Bogaerts at SS earlier in the season, but I don't like the idea of conducting that experiment in the middle of the World Series...
Farrell hinted during his post-game interview tonight that Nava will replace Jonny Gomes in left field in Game 3.
John Farrell hinted during his post-game interview tonight that he will replace Jonny Gomes in left field with Daniel Nava. Hopefully Nava's bat has woken up.
Hope Jake Peavy's stuff on Saturday is better than what we saw during his last disastrous start. In his younger days, I think Peavy was a decent hitter in the NL. I don't know how good his hitting is these days...
And who the hell knows what's going on with the forever-injured Clay Buchholz?? Will he start Game 4 for sure? If he starts, will it be a disaster and/or how long will he last? What specifically is his injury du jour, anyway??
I'm reverting to my long-time Red Sox fan pessimism, can you tell?
Peavy was so excited last start..he's like a kid..he'll be fine on Sat
There a reason STL is in the series. There's a reason the Sox are in the Series. There shouldn't be any overconfidence going into any game this series. These are the two best teams in baseball over the course of a long season. They both earned the right to be here.
They are both irma-centric sluts who will be vanquished, like the spring lamb.
Bottom line is if Breslow didnt self destruct, BOS most likely would have won game 2. It wont be a sweep, but BOS will win in 6 games. STL doesnt impress at all and BOS has already seen their two best pitchers; they’ll adjust.
DET was a better opponent than STL for sure, TAM too; the real WS has already been played in the AL.
“Middlebrooks has been hit-less for what seems like forever. Can’t a hitting coach or someone help him? And Drew??”
Middlebrooks, maybe. Drew’s toast.
“Workmans gonna be a stud.”
I predict he’ll be a starter next season. He’s got the “it” that the irma Buchholtz doesn’t.
“Do what I did during the ALDS and ALCS series... Mute the TV and listen to the WEEI audio.”
If they’re not synced that’ll make my Tourette’s act up; I’ll either watch with no volume or listen with no TV.
“I missed that game, went to the theater with my mother. Cyrano de Bergerac.”
That’s nice. How was it?
Multiple fielding errors had nothing to do with either team loss in the first two games.
If theyre not synced thatll make my Tourettes act up; Ill either watch with no volume or listen with no TV.
I hear ya. However, I didn't mind when the radio was ahead of the action on the TV. But if it's the other way around (radio is WAY behind TV action), forget it...
