Craig Kimbrel is supposedly the heir to Mariano Rivera. In his postseason career as closer, Rivera recorded 27 appearances of 2+ innings.
Uribe bunted two balls foul, ... and then tomahawked a high fastball from David Carpenter into left-field stands for a shocking two-run homer ....
Note that I wrote "David Carpenter" and not "Craig Kimbrel."
The Braves had to win this game. Lose, and they go home. Somehow they lost -- in the late innings, no less -- without using the most dominant relief pitcher in the game.
The sad thing is, Gonzalez apparently didn't even think of using Kimbrel for two innings. "I think six outs isn't something we were even talking about in the dugout," he said after the game.
But whats the difference between four outs and six outs? Six pitches? Ten pitches? And that doesnt even factor in that the Dodgers had the 5-6-7 hitters due up in the eighth and the 8-9-1 hitters up in the ninth.
So instead you lost a game with a guy who had a 6.07 ERA last year for the Houston Astros.
... ".. I want the ball." We'll see if Kimbrel confirms that, but even if he didn't say that, his look of disgust, standing there with his hands on his hips, will haunt Braves fans all winter.
This should be covered in Managing 101. ... Who cares if it's the seventh inning or the eighth inning or the ninth. I'd rather lose with Carpenter in the ninth inning or the 10th inning or whenever ...
Look, managing your bullpen in a structured manner in the regular season is one thing.
October is not the regular season.
Fredi Gonzalez didn't think the best reliever in the game can get six outs.
He ended up getting none.

He’s taking Ortiz’s “vitamins”.
Ryan’s done in TEX:

Yeah that's it. Tigers are asking can we have some too?
Time to switch over to MLB TeeVee channel and hear their latest Tiggger excuses... ;-)
I switched to CSNNE and am listening to the local guys.
“Yeah that’s it. Tigers are asking can we have some too?”
Sure. Just go down to the Dominican. :)
Great, now John Daniels is free to trade for more mediocre pitchers from the Cubs.
One Tigger excuse after the next. LoL.
Looks like Ryan was pushed out. Bad, bad move.
OTOH, one of his sons works for HOU; Ryan, Sr. will end up there - they need it.
Ehh...
DET can’t be as Goddamned annoying as TAMPA GAY and “The Genius” are.
Another Matt Flynn? 6 years/$68M, never played an inning of MLB:

Nah, The ‘Genius’ still wins.
Always. Always.
Is this the official post-season MLB thread? Just stumbled onto this one. Better late than never, I guess...
It's not you. Hubby and I have been noticing the same. Joe Buck is of course a huge Cardinals fan. Perhaps he just prefers mid-west teams (ie Detroit) to eastern clubs (ie Boston). Sure sounds that way...
McCarver's always an idiot anyway... will he ever retire??
I'm ticked off at all the TV time Fox gave to Max Scherzer... headset on, in the dugout, babbling away for a significant amount of time during two of these games. He chattered on for a full inning during Game 1 or 2 at Fenway! No Red Sox player, manager or coach got anything close to equal time.
In the 7th or 8th innings, we've been muting the Fox coverage, and listening to Joe Castiglione and Dave O'Brien on WEEI radio, even though there's a delay in the action from radio to TV.
Fox's Joe Buck and the annoying Tim McCarver are really hard to take after 2-3 hours...
“...those of us left behind have to endure the true living Hell...”
Sometimes, I think that’s what “Hell” actually is. Sure does feel like it at times.
“Sometimes, I think thats what Hell actually is. Sure does feel like it at times.”
I honestly think you’re right. Sucks...
Yeah, and sometimes I hate being right... most times, no, but sometimes.
Yep...:(
“Is this the official post-season MLB thread? Just stumbled onto this one. Better late than never, I guess...”
Not official, but it works. :)
Buck: Yeah, enough of him. I didn’t think he was that biased, but he is.
McCarver: He’s the uncle farting at the dinner table during the holidays. This is it for him with Fox. I do have fond memories of him and Ralph Kiner announcing Mets games on WOR back when I was little. I can take him more than Buck.
“No Red Sox player, manager or coach got anything close to equal time.”
Nope. That whole Scherzer worship segment was beyond bad; I muted the TV. Yes, anyone who follows baseball at all knows he’s winning the AL Cy Young - WE KNOW!!!
I might try your radio idea; I’ve had it with Fox’s announcing team of Dumb and Dumber.
:-)
Looks like the Sox are in the drivers seat now. With Cabrera hurting the way he is, and hurting the team the way he is (error, helped score three of your runs, painful to watch base running that would have scored another run for the Tigers), you're looking good now.
I'm a very happy camper. We still have to get by Verlander or Scherzer, but we're at home, baby.
BTW..that catch that Iglesias made is just unreal..
