Craig Kimbrel is supposedly the heir to Mariano Rivera. In his postseason career as closer, Rivera recorded 27 appearances of 2+ innings.
Uribe bunted two balls foul, ... and then tomahawked a high fastball from David Carpenter into left-field stands for a shocking two-run homer ....
Note that I wrote "David Carpenter" and not "Craig Kimbrel."
The Braves had to win this game. Lose, and they go home. Somehow they lost -- in the late innings, no less -- without using the most dominant relief pitcher in the game.
The sad thing is, Gonzalez apparently didn't even think of using Kimbrel for two innings. "I think six outs isn't something we were even talking about in the dugout," he said after the game.
But whats the difference between four outs and six outs? Six pitches? Ten pitches? And that doesnt even factor in that the Dodgers had the 5-6-7 hitters due up in the eighth and the 8-9-1 hitters up in the ninth.
So instead you lost a game with a guy who had a 6.07 ERA last year for the Houston Astros.
... ".. I want the ball." We'll see if Kimbrel confirms that, but even if he didn't say that, his look of disgust, standing there with his hands on his hips, will haunt Braves fans all winter.
This should be covered in Managing 101. ... Who cares if it's the seventh inning or the eighth inning or the ninth. I'd rather lose with Carpenter in the ninth inning or the 10th inning or whenever ...
Look, managing your bullpen in a structured manner in the regular season is one thing.
October is not the regular season.
Fredi Gonzalez didn't think the best reliever in the game can get six outs.
He ended up getting none.

I’m personally glad the Tigers aren’t getting a long break. In 2006 they went into the world series after a 12 day break and were dead cold.
Sanchez will be starting at Boston and he’s certainly on par with Scherzer and Verlander. Between the 3 of them they set an MLB season strikeout record.
Both CS should be very, very good.
No Shoney’s for me, Mauro. That’s Maddonium’s lair.
You use him Pete, use him. Don’t lose with your best bullet still in the chamber.
Expected result last night, no way “Sonny Gray” was gonna shut out that lineup again. The Tigers have the best 1-2 punch, Verlander (3 and 7) and Sherzer (2 and 6) should both to able to go twice if necessary, correct?
I predict Tigers/Dodgers. I’ll be rooting for STL though.
BTW GOPSTER I heard Mike Illich and family are big dems, his daughter has considered running for Governor, though like most billionaires he’s given money to both sides, he loves GOP Rep. Candace Miller for some reason. Maybe Cripplecreek can tell us more about him.
Fun fact, Illich has been given a key to the city in D-town. So has Saddam Hussein, in 1980 because he gave a lot of money to a Chaldean Church there! Funny thing is they’d be better off today with Mayor Saddam. Especially if he would gas the gang members.
Is it just me or is Oakland too reliant on the long ball? Beane and Maddon need to quit their jobs and team up in Houston baby!! Lets see what 2 geniuses can do, together!
Ilitch is all over the place politically. He supports lots of senate democrats, supported Rudy Giuliani for president, the NRSC, Candace Miller for congress etc.

In 2012 Ilitch appears to have gone mostly republican aside from Debbie Stabenow.

I want impy to come up with new info on JHinkley SSirham and ABremer. Year 50 ann is approach and we want intelligent intelligence.
this is not partisan, so the MLBsterinMA will be delighted.
1)Crazy
2)Terrorist
3)Typical redneck
Which made them the perfect patsies for a time traveling assassin.
Lets git it on.
Boston ace up against a pitcher the Sox have never seen.
Looks like Cabrera is feeling better. He still can’t run but his hitting is coming back.
Victorino strikes out but gets to first anyway on a wild pitch. With the walk to Pedroia they have to face Ortiz with 2 on.
Real glad the Tigers picked up Iglesias this summer. His bat isn’t spectacular but he makes some spectacular plays.
And the DP takes care of the Tiggers in the 3rd.
Pitch count is up to 61 on Sanchez after 3.
Lot of fumbling with the ball from both teams tonight.
Jhonny Peralta.
let’s not forget that Anibel was a Sox farmhand traded to Expos in the Pedro deal ...
It really says something that he’s the number 3 pitcher in the rotation.
I personally think this is a must win game for the Red Sox.
111 pitches for Sanchez... ball 4.
