Craig Kimbrel is supposedly the heir to Mariano Rivera. In his postseason career as closer, Rivera recorded 27 appearances of 2+ innings.
Uribe bunted two balls foul, ... and then tomahawked a high fastball from David Carpenter into left-field stands for a shocking two-run homer ....
Note that I wrote "David Carpenter" and not "Craig Kimbrel."
The Braves had to win this game. Lose, and they go home. Somehow they lost -- in the late innings, no less -- without using the most dominant relief pitcher in the game.
The sad thing is, Gonzalez apparently didn't even think of using Kimbrel for two innings. "I think six outs isn't something we were even talking about in the dugout," he said after the game.
But whats the difference between four outs and six outs? Six pitches? Ten pitches? And that doesnt even factor in that the Dodgers had the 5-6-7 hitters due up in the eighth and the 8-9-1 hitters up in the ninth.
So instead you lost a game with a guy who had a 6.07 ERA last year for the Houston Astros.
... ".. I want the ball." We'll see if Kimbrel confirms that, but even if he didn't say that, his look of disgust, standing there with his hands on his hips, will haunt Braves fans all winter.
This should be covered in Managing 101. ... Who cares if it's the seventh inning or the eighth inning or the ninth. I'd rather lose with Carpenter in the ninth inning or the 10th inning or whenever ...
Look, managing your bullpen in a structured manner in the regular season is one thing.
October is not the regular season.
Fredi Gonzalez didn't think the best reliever in the game can get six outs.
He ended up getting none.

10-4!
yikes...no game seven - I’ll have a wicked big heart attack and spill my beah!
Hope to get it all done in one more game!
There are no radio or TV calls of the Red Sox winning a World Series at Fenway Park. They had not been invented then.
there is one that plays on coast to coast AM radio at 3 a.m. it is from a parallel universe in 1975 when Oil Can Boyd came into the game in relief ...
Yes that’s right, home field and sweeps in 04 and 07.
I remember the ‘05 W Sox did not clinch anything at home, not the division title or any round of the playoffs. The Blackhawks also won both Stanley Cups in game 6 on the road. It’s special to clinch a title at home.
“That pic is overwhelmingly homosexual.”
Well the character of Sulu is not gay, I think he tried to rape Uhura in that episode.
Farrell HAS to keep Ross in, even with Lackey coming up; he did fine with him last night. The ONLY reason Salty should come off the bench for playing time is to replace Ross if he gets injured.
Salty - Thanks for everything buddy, enjoy your new team next season. Suchholtz and Peavy too.
And win or lose, this WS performance should make David Ortiz (& his ‘vitamins’) the first DH to make the Baseball HOF.
“Its special to clinch a title at home.”
YES!!! It puts the smell of sex in the air!!!
“Well the character of Sulu is not gay, I think he tried to rape Uhura in that episode.”
WRONG! He raped Uhura’s platform shoes in that episode. They were FABULOUS!!!
No WS tomorrow means no distractions for SOA tomm. night.
“there is one that plays on coast to coast AM radio at 3 a.m. it is from a parallel universe in 1975 when Oil Can Boyd came into the game in relief ...”
What does this mean? It makes no sense.
“WRONG! He raped Uhuras platform shoes in that episode. They were FABULOUS!!!”
LMAO! You win.
Did you ever see the John Wayne movie “The Green Berets”? Sulu was in it, if only the Duke knew...
I didn’t know Wayne made a NAM movie.
He did, also co-directed. IIRC, it was the only major movie made (1968) about NAM during NAM.
From Wikipedia:
“George Takei missed working on the “The Trouble With Tribbles” and “The Gamesters of Triskelion” episodes of the original “Star Trek” series to work on this movie.”
M*A*S*H (1970) took place during the Korean War.
in the parallel universe, Bill Lee does not throw the ephus pitch to Perez and walks him. Moret goes 1 1/3 and Willoughby pitches the 9th for the save.
Sox win 3-1
Too bad, a tribble would be a fashionable pet for a ghey man, he could carry it around in his purse like a little dog.
No kidding, right?
“OOOOHHH! IT’S SO ADORABLE!!!”
Geta sweater for it, dress it up.
Hubby reminded me earlier during the game that first base was Big Papi's position for several years before he became a DH. He played 1B for the Minnesota Twins and for awhile for the Red Sox, when he first came to Boston...
David Ortiz is a giant who clearly loves the game of baseball, and this baseball fan chooses Big Papi as the Fan Favorite Player of the 2013 World Series.
Ortiz has been nothing short of awesome this post season. The terms "Hall of Fame" and "Cooperstown" have been cropping up nightly in the Red Sox clubhouse during post-game interviews.
Ortiz turns 38 in November, and is currently in the best shape of his professional life.
I totally agree. I "assume" Farrell will keep Ross in and leave Salty on the bench. If Farrell puts Salty in, we could be making those John Farrell/Grady Little comparisons all over again.
Put Ross in Game 6, John!!
Did you ever think our Red Sox would go this far in the post-season? They've been awesome, especially Big Papi, Jon Lester, and Koji Uehara.
That's right, GOPsterinMA. The last time the Red Sox won a World Series at Fenway Park was in 1918.
In 2004, the Red Sox won the WS at the old Busch Stadium (Cardinals), and in 2007, the Red Sox won the WS at Coors Field (Colorado Rockies).
