Craig Kimbrel is supposedly the heir to Mariano Rivera. In his postseason career as closer, Rivera recorded 27 appearances of 2+ innings.
Uribe bunted two balls foul, ... and then tomahawked a high fastball from David Carpenter into left-field stands for a shocking two-run homer ....
Note that I wrote "David Carpenter" and not "Craig Kimbrel."
The Braves had to win this game. Lose, and they go home. Somehow they lost -- in the late innings, no less -- without using the most dominant relief pitcher in the game.
The sad thing is, Gonzalez apparently didn't even think of using Kimbrel for two innings. "I think six outs isn't something we were even talking about in the dugout," he said after the game.
But whats the difference between four outs and six outs? Six pitches? Ten pitches? And that doesnt even factor in that the Dodgers had the 5-6-7 hitters due up in the eighth and the 8-9-1 hitters up in the ninth.
So instead you lost a game with a guy who had a 6.07 ERA last year for the Houston Astros.
... ".. I want the ball." We'll see if Kimbrel confirms that, but even if he didn't say that, his look of disgust, standing there with his hands on his hips, will haunt Braves fans all winter.
This should be covered in Managing 101. ... Who cares if it's the seventh inning or the eighth inning or the ninth. I'd rather lose with Carpenter in the ninth inning or the 10th inning or whenever ...
Look, managing your bullpen in a structured manner in the regular season is one thing.
October is not the regular season.
Fredi Gonzalez didn't think the best reliever in the game can get six outs.
He ended up getting none.

I ate Little Caesar’s pizza...
Can’t deny that Leyland is a great manager. He took bottom of the barrel dead last Detroit to the world series his first season, 4 division championships, and 2 AL series championships.
I’d say he’s the best there is these days.
” Best regular season record in the NL.”
That would be the Cardinals, not the Braves
“It’s hard to imagine the Braves luck not being a lot better next year.”
Their luck will likely hold. Playing in the worst division in baseball helps a lot
Yeah, I meant to write “win the NL East” but my brain cramped up.
Captain Wainwright has made the Pirates walk the plank.
Thank you Pirates for a great season .. maybe we’ll get ‘em next year !
Plan B time for Theo. It better not be Fanny Acta, I don’t care if he can “develop young talent”, the perennial losers cannot hire one of the losingest managers around. I hear they want a guy with experience (ruling out Brad Ausmus), but no one with experience stands out to me.
Poor Pirates, but after they lost game 4 this was expected, can’t go wrong with Wainwright.
If I see that Miller Lite commercial with Ken Jeong 1 more time I’m gonna find out what Madison avenue d-bag is behind it, take him out to a forested area, and hunt him for sport.
there did not seem to be an earlier spot to get Grilli in.
a. could double switch with Martin or Byrd out of game, Grilli pitch 7 and 8. But he wanted lefty to pitch the 7th.
b. Grilli pitching 8 and 9 would have worked.
A rally likely woulda brought Grilli up with 2 out and men on in the 9th, so if PITT were still behind ... Grilli is out for a pinch=hitter after 1/3 inning.
Bullpen gave up 4 runs in 3 innings. Manager fail.
“Plan B time for Theo.”
Dusty Baker?
How ‘bout trading to get the smartest manager of all time, Joe “Shoney’s” Maddon? He’d have the $$$ to spend on players; then we can see what a genius he really is.
PIT had a great year; hopefully they can keep it going.
I’ll dump the Madison Ave. poof in the parking lot at Joe Maddon’s favorite Shoney’s and announce he’s got a ton of blue meth “hidden” in him. Start the train - all aboard!!!

LOL. Theo will be lynched and hung from a street light if he even considers Rusty Faker the arm destroyer. Hitler is more popular in Chicago than Rusty, hell the Green Bay Packers are too.
I’m joking. Rusty’s all done as a manager.
Hitler and “Da Pack” more popular in CHI than Rusty? DAMN!!!
773,000 search engine hits Madden the genius can't be wrong.
Madden brings in pooping penguins, mariachi bands, wacky cockatiels, and card trick magicians who all perform baseball magic that makes his team win!
Hmmmmmm ... you may have something there. Boy genius Theo and genius Madden team up in Chi-town to overcome the Billy Goat and Steve Bartman. LoL.
Well I think a certain subsegment of Cub fans sympathize with him and find him likable. The majority though blame him for losing in 2003 and the fall of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. The drunks who go to every game would probably stone him if they thought they could get away with it.
It would be quite the show. :)
God love Cliff the Penguin and where he went to the bathroom...:)
Thanks for the laughs!

Dusty Baker reached out to Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo to inform him that he’s interested in taking over as the Nats manager...Baker said that no interview has been scheduled.
