Craig Kimbrel is supposedly the heir to Mariano Rivera. In his postseason career as closer, Rivera recorded 27 appearances of 2+ innings.
Uribe bunted two balls foul, ... and then tomahawked a high fastball from David Carpenter into left-field stands for a shocking two-run homer ....
Note that I wrote "David Carpenter" and not "Craig Kimbrel."
The Braves had to win this game. Lose, and they go home. Somehow they lost -- in the late innings, no less -- without using the most dominant relief pitcher in the game.
The sad thing is, Gonzalez apparently didn't even think of using Kimbrel for two innings. "I think six outs isn't something we were even talking about in the dugout," he said after the game.
But whats the difference between four outs and six outs? Six pitches? Ten pitches? And that doesnt even factor in that the Dodgers had the 5-6-7 hitters due up in the eighth and the 8-9-1 hitters up in the ninth.
So instead you lost a game with a guy who had a 6.07 ERA last year for the Houston Astros.
... ".. I want the ball." We'll see if Kimbrel confirms that, but even if he didn't say that, his look of disgust, standing there with his hands on his hips, will haunt Braves fans all winter.
This should be covered in Managing 101. ... Who cares if it's the seventh inning or the eighth inning or the ninth. I'd rather lose with Carpenter in the ninth inning or the 10th inning or whenever ...
Look, managing your bullpen in a structured manner in the regular season is one thing.
October is not the regular season.
Fredi Gonzalez didn't think the best reliever in the game can get six outs.
He ended up getting none.

Papi’s at it again. Awesome.
Right now he can read the written letters on the baseball, and it looks like a beach ball to Ortiz.
You got to be kidding me, 1st base was open, Wainwright should have put nothing over the plate.
Early in the game and Wainright wanted to challenge him on the first pitch. Or maybe he thought Ortiz would take the 1st pitch.
Holliday Ks to end the 1st.
The Cards need to smarten up.
Bada-bing. That was fast.
.
Big Papi's powerhouse bat is well documented. I've been particularly impressed watching Ortiz play defense at 1B while in STL. He is not only capable, but he obviously enjoys himself. The numerous glimpses of him exchanging humorous banter with opponent runners on base is refreshing. His ebullient challenge to his teammates from 2B last night was exhilarating. His team leader pow wow in the dugout further challenged his colleagues.
David Ortiz is a giant who clearly loves the game of baseball, and this baseball fan chooses Big Papi as the Fan Favorite Player of the 2013 World Series.
Wow, very well said, FRiend. Yes, David Ortiz - affectionately known as "Big Papi" - has been the #1 Red Sox fan favorite for years... probably since he came to the Red Sox from the Minnesota Twins in 2003. Can't believe he's been with the Sox for ten long years!
When Big Papi is announced at Fenway Park, he consistently gets the loudest applause. Ortiz is pretty much the de facto "captain" of the Red Sox players. (Dustin Pedroia will most likely be the future captain.)
Big Papi has been playing first base during inter-league games for several years now. I also marvel at how relaxed he seems there, as he spends most of his time during the season as the DH.

Wasn't that awesome?! He hit that double, pounded into 2nd base, clapped his hands and shouted to the Red Sox dugout: "Let's go! Vámonos!" to fire up his teammates. Love it!
Craig hits into the DP. Ends the 2nd.
Pitchers can’t hit !!!!! I remember yelling that when I was a kid—way back when.
‘
Lester should have attacked the ball. Get his cuts ...you never know.
He’s redeemed himself. :-)
Kozma lays down the bunt that move Freese to 2nd. Cards are trying to manufacture a run.
Busted !!!
.
Papi blasted that single over the second baseman playing the short fielder LoL.
They continue to put the ball over the plate to Ortiz, and therefore will lose the series.
When he has a slump it’s a big one,when he’s on a roll he’s on a roll.
Now of we could just get rid of Joe Buck. One of my sons won’t even mention him because my reaction isn’t pretty
.
That back up cutter by Lester is nasty.
I just called that Holliday homer. No lie.
Card power outage except for Holliday. Beltran almost.
