Big Papi's powerhouse bat is well documented. I've been particularly impressed watching Ortiz play defense at 1B while in STL. He is not only capable, but he obviously enjoys himself. The numerous glimpses of him exchanging humorous banter with opponent runners on base is refreshing. His ebullient challenge to his teammates from 2B last night was exhilarating. His team leader pow wow in the dugout further challenged his colleagues.
David Ortiz is a giant who clearly loves the game of baseball, and this baseball fan chooses Big Papi as the Fan Favorite Player of the 2013 World Series.
Wow, very well said, FRiend. Yes, David Ortiz - affectionately known as "Big Papi" - has been the #1 Red Sox fan favorite for years... probably since he came to the Red Sox from the Minnesota Twins in 2003. Can't believe he's been with the Sox for ten long years!
When Big Papi is announced at Fenway Park, he consistently gets the loudest applause. Ortiz is pretty much the de facto "captain" of the Red Sox players. (Dustin Pedroia will most likely be the future captain.)
Big Papi has been playing first base during inter-league games for several years now. I also marvel at how relaxed he seems there, as he spends most of his time during the season as the DH.

Wasn't that awesome?! He hit that double, pounded into 2nd base, clapped his hands and shouted to the Red Sox dugout: "Let's go! Vámonos!" to fire up his teammates. Love it!
They continue to put the ball over the plate to Ortiz, and therefore will lose the series.
