An off-duty federal officer who fired his gun at a car that cut him off has a history of aggressive behavior, according to news reports.
Angel Echevarria, an officer with the Department of Homeland Security, was recently arrested and charged with aggressive assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle in Boca Raton, Fla. after opening fire on a red Toyota that had committed a traffic infraction.
According to the arrest affidavit, Echevarria claimed he was trying to shoot the tires of the Toyota to prevent it from fleeing the scene. But authorities concluded that too much time has elapsed between the traffic violation and the shooting to justify the latter. There were three people in the Toyota, including a two-year-old child, NBC news reports.
Theres no reason to do that, said former New York State Patrol Captain Robert Buchholz, in a statement to local news. Not for an off-duty police officer, a federal officer or a civilian.
The details of Echevarrias arrest were not immediately released, causing one local news outlet to accuse the authorities of protecting the federal officer.
Echevarria is no stranger to controversy. Sean Davis, a contributor to The Daily Caller, reported a strange encounter with him in 2008. Davis claimed that Echevarria crashed into his car, threatened him and violated his rights. He pressed the city of Alexandria, Va. to investigate the incident, but no report was ever released.
I strongly believe that Mr. Echevarria used his position as an armed federal officer to intimidate me into giving up my rights and liberties, wrote Davis.
The Boca Raton Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Misleading headline. He’s not a cop he’s a Federal agent. Who ought to be doing time in a FedMob prison real soon.
Please, God, tell me I don't need a sarcasm tag on that...
One of the kenyan occupation troops letting off a little steam in the native village.
If Homeland Security Officers are not allowed to murder random strangers at will, it will mean that the Terrorists have won.

Maybe so, but I noted that American cops, even in small bedroom communities, were turning into jack-booted thugs back in the late 90s, just before I left.
Since I bought a sat dish last year and started watching movies for the first time in 8 years, I notice that “spectacular” violence has gone up unimaginable levels, and the once “good old boys on the beat” have turned into Nazi storm-troopers. I have also noted that the number of Afros in movies has exploded.
Did it suddenly get stupid in here?
Who's stupid? Do you actually believe Hollywood does things randomly?
on the other hand...it is Boca Raton....
My own small city has missed out on the developments we have both noticed all too much. This sheriff's department weeds out the video gamers and other sorts of psychos quickly if any get past the psych tests and the sheriff has a lot of influence with the city cops. It was pretty bad out on the Beach until a few years ago when their chief quit and ran for sheriff and was beaten better than 2-1 (The sitting sheriff did not even do ads). Now the Beach police are very much what the cops of our youth were. The only SWAT type activity is from the State and from the Feds and is heavily discouraged by the sheriff(the last 3 sheriffs, actually) and are rare.
Angel Echevarria,
I’m not understanding what you are saying. Are you saying there is something wrong with people who play video games?
Keep a mental note of what web sites and news channels you watch and what you read online. If following societal news and in particular crime, you have to be careful because you are oversampling. It will send you into a spiral of depression.
Not all black people want to kill you and not all cops are going to shoot your dog or shoot your grandparents during a 4:00 am no-knock raid.
It’s a real problem on FR, people need to temper their information intake to include normal stuff too.

Yes, I understand the confusion in media and societal information today. American society and culture appear to be in a total upheaval. Since I have been an expat since 2004, I get the majority of my news on FR, as well as Drudge.
I do have FOX news, via G-sat, but am not so pleased with them now. Everything I see and read is so depressing.
I am saying that many who have grown up playing video games are conscience free and quick on the trigger. In arrest situations they skip all the steps and go first for the gun. The widespread use of drones is ominous for the same reasons. That portion of the gaming population that is the preferred resource for drone operation are those soulless videogamers. If you take offense at this that has become something of a truism then I suspect you have noticed some of the same tendencies in yourself. It is not all gamers, of course, not even totally all of the 100% gamers, but it is a large enough population to be dangerous. Many of them are positively recruited into the army and many go into police work because it is like video games to them. They are sociopaths, psychopaths that are made, not born.

Empirical observations tend to suffer a bit from confirmation bias.
I tend towards believing that it is more of a generational angst nurtured by being constantly pelted with sensationalism, belligerence, social horrors and an ever increasing feeling of dread for the future.
Oh yea, joblessness, hopelessness, increasingly watered down educational standards and the breakdown of the family structure that has been genetically breed into us for more than 10 millennium has more to do with it then a video game.
Maybe we’re all violent because of too much Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner. *beep* *beep*
I believe that characteristic is one reason the Regime is trying to substitute drones for infantry. Infantry guys, especially spec forces, are not reliable agents of the regime. They tend to be more Constitutional in their outlook. And they still have souls.
That area is notoriously difficult to navigate. I sometimes sit for ages trying to exit the mall, and sometimes pull out “just in time” to get into the traffic on Glades. My suspicion is that the victims in this case probably did something like that, and happened to cut off the wrong maniac.
That being said, I just completed my CCW and NRA Basic Practical, and on EVERY PAGE of all the pamphlets and even the owners manual of my antique colt, are warnings, warnings, warnings about safety.
AND I had to fill out a questionnaire about my past, swear that I have never been in trouble either legally or mentally, and have a background check done, printed and photographed.
Evidently, such safeguards are not in place to be a Homeland Security Agent.
YIKES!
He who thinks before he writes,
might be right after he thinks.
