Did anyone see the O'Reilly Factor just now. They had this Professor Of New Testament at Notre Dame who claimed that Jesus was a socialist. I watched and was amazed at how truly stupid she was. She was saying one must sell all their possessions to go to heaven. Yeah I'm sure she hitches a ride to our faculty lounge at Notre dame everyday. She was incredibly ignorant constantly taking the NT out of context. Thought she had to be the stupidest woman I've ever seen on O'Reilly.

Did she explain why Lydia, the lady who made and sold purple cloth, did not sell all her possessions but was still praised in the Bible? Lydia kept her nice house, which she used for hospitality.
There’s no evidence Joseph of Arimathea sold all his stuff, either, which is why he had the means to give Jesus a nice burial.

Not stupid, willfully deluded. They do not want to believe in the real Jesus, so they make up their own version of Him to fit their desires. It’s not because they can’t comprehend what the Bible says; it’s just that they reject it.
She’s not alone either. Her basic premise is one of the things at the heart of “liberation” theology, and a cover that socialists have been using forever to disarm Christian opposition.

When he said things like this, how could Jesus not be a socialist?
—”I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
—”If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.”

As a Catholic she should know that Jesus founded a Church which explains Scripture. The Church teaches no such thing as Jesus a Socialist. In fact, the Popes have condemned Socialism.

What do you expect...?
BOR to actually have a competent educated theologian on his show to make him look stupid?

I have watched BOR only once since 2004 when he said the Swift Boat Vets had no right to be heard, and that was when he claimed Free Republic was a hate site.
Never again.

I have preached in part on that Matthew 19 story. Was he telling all of us to sell what we had and give to the poor? If you read the context it's not necessarily that simple. The young man was telling Jesus that he had done everything right in his life and was asking what more he needed to do to get into Heaven.
I suggest Jesus was answering him with a version of the Shania Twain song title That Don't Impress Me Much! He certainly did not say "impoverish your neighbor and give it to Caesar."

I can’t stand that blathering, bloviating old fool. He talks because he likes the sound of his voice, and he talks soooo much because he thinks we do, too.

Christ made clear that His followers have an obligation to be charitable....and did so more than once.He also instructed us to “render unto Caesar” which,I firmly believe, was meant to indicate that government's legitimate power and responsibilities only go so far.So while I give money to *private* charities I firmly and unalterably resist government Marxists' demands that "charity" must be funneled through them.

God is a jealous God. He certainly doesn’t want you making government your source over Him. See Genesis to Revelation.
Only a theologian could make GOOD NEWS depressing.

I always thought that Judas was the first socialist:
Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages." He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.
"Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."

The only government handout Jesus got was a corrupted death conviction and a free wooden cross to hang upon.
