This is what passes for religious studies these days. It is a deliberate attempt, foretold by Jesus, by the establishment to destroy the Church. Only those with a profound hatred of Christianity (and Judaism) are allowed to teach at the university level (not Seminaries).
Just today, I saw a car in Bangor, Maine with an “Obama / Biden” sticker on the bumper and a JESUS WAS A LIBERAL bumper sticker on the lower edge of the trunk.
LIEberals give to the government ‘charity’ by taking money from the productive and then claim credit for it. Those liars dont pay a penny more in taxes and some not any.
Oh yeh and studies show conservatives are far more generous than liberal cheapskates.
The most ridiculous thing she said - and Bill agreed with her - was that Jesus taught over and over that our greatest obligation and responsibility was to others...when what Jesus taught was that our PRIMARY responsibility is to God.
The Seron on the Mount included this line, “Blessed are the poor in spirit for they shall see God”
Jesus referred to being poor in several different contexts. One way was to insist that rich people who did not share from their bounty and who were only interested in storing up earthly treasures would not go to heaven. That was when he mentioned in one parable that it was easier for a poor man to get to heaven than a rich man. But that parable only meant that often rich people idolize their wealth and status as being a rich person, and have not suffered from want like the poor people do.
But Jesus did not in any way infer that simply by being poor, that you were guaranteed a place in heaven. I think that is the heresy of the modern world - we glorify poor people as all being saints. It is a lot of bunk.
Then he spoke about those who were
Why else would the majority of Catholics and other evangelists continue to vote overwhelmingly for Democrats?
You don’t explain the story of Ananias and Sapphira properly - Ananias and Sapphira wanted the acclaim and honor of giving all, but they conspired to lie about how much they received. The fault was not that they didn’t give it all - the fault was that they PRETENDED to give it all, and conspired together to lie about it. Peter himself told Ananias that the property was his to do as he would, and after he sold it, the money was his to do with as he would - they were struck dead because they said they were giving the full price and did not. Not because they didn’t give it all, but because they lied.
She purposely obfuscated. A Christian duty to be charitable is not synonymous with coercive wealth redistribution by a central Government.
Well, he was trying to explain the reason the government wanted to kill him. But there is really no evidence of what Bill claims. The religious Jews were furious that Jesus claimed to be God, Pontius Pilate had a political need to keep the peace and mollify the Jews. Nothing about killing Jesus because he “stood up for the folks”.
Don’t forget the last line of the camel parable: With God all things are possible.
Everybody always forgets the last line of the parables, sometimes where the most important message is.
Another one: Go and sin no more. Everybody gets all tangled in the stoning, is it right, is it wrong.
I stopped watch BOR at that time as well.
Me too, South40.
She (mis)quoted that verse. She said, “Blessed are the poor, for they shall see God.”
I never watch that POS.
Except he wasn’t really talking about money.
These people also manage to ignore the fact that Jesus went to Peter’s HOUSE in Capernaum to heal his mother-in-law. (Aren’t all of these men supposed to be gay? Peter was married!)The New Testament is filled with references to homeowners who were followers. Jesus talked about people who owned vineyards and their right to determine what they would pay their workers.
It's a tool to manipulate weak minded Christians who fail to read their Bibles regularly and pray for discernment.
How I would love a mass “Damascus Road” experience for all of these Christians and Commies...
and the second is like unto it.
But I agree with what others have said here: Jesus’ mission was to each of us individually. He’s more concerned with the development of our generosity than he is with the actual money changing hands.
What happened to separation of state and Church? If they want no Church in gubmint, keep their political nonsense out of the Church.
And another thought, when George Soros, the Clintons, Obamas, this “theologian” and all the rest of the high society socialists give away all of their earthly possessions, then I might listen.
Just “funnin” with you.
