I pass by there everyday. The turn around is simply a loop maybe 200 yards long on flat open ground. The Park Service has erected the same barriers at all parking lots, overlooks, and etc. for the entire length of the Mount Vernon Parkway. Most of the overlooks are no more than spaces where you can pull off onto an expanded shoulder to view the river. It is disgusting, and obviously done to annoy the public.
“It is disgusting, and obviously done to annoy the public.”
It’s obviously working, but not exactly how they would have hoped.
Inquiring minds want to know... how the hell are they paying for the Barry-cades? Thought they were shut down.
Are the roads maintained by the city? If so, How can they barricade access to Mount Vernon is it is not paid for with gov’t money?
This requires massive acts of civil disobedience. Citizens should stop at every one of the spots that do not require staff (like the turnaround) and take down the barricades. These should be hauled to the White House and thrown over the fence onto the lawn.
So, any FReeper, or any other concerned citizen passing by with a few minutes to spare should pull over, open the barrier, and continue on his way.
