Former Speaker and former presidential candidate Newt Gingrich took to Twitter to blast the Obama administration for its absurd shutdown actions. "DC Tourists frustrated by shutdown Smithsonian should visit Mount Vernon. Ladies of Mount Vernon have NEVER taken govt money. Still open"
Gingrich and wife had paid a visit to Mount Vernon. And he noticed a little something on the bus turnaround.
"The tour bus turnaround at Mount Vernon closed by Park Police. Zero maintenance required."
A response from a lib:
"Zero maintenance. However, if someone gets lost in there, a staff would be required. Are you really that damn obtuse?"
Lost in a turnaround?

I live in northern Virginia and just drove on the Mount Vernon Parkway about an hour ago (that road was not closed, despite it being a National Park Service maintained property). This Obama is simply a major league creep.
Move the barricades and go in. sheesh
If I lived there, I’d move the traffic control devices out of the way - civil disobedience to re-open the Gov’t.
No, the Mount Vernon Parkway, the bike path, and land to the riverbank is part of a long, skinny, federal park that runs from Jones Point Park in the City of Alexandria through Fairfax County to Mount Vernon. Any offence committed there, including speeding on the parkway, goes before a federal magistrate at the EDVA District Court in Alexandria.
Yes, the parkway itself is open, and patrolled, just the overlooks and evidently the bus turnaround are closed.
“Help! The telephones aren’t working! I’ve tried to make a phone call from this telephone booth for an hour and it’s not working!”
“You’re in a revolving door.”
“Oh.....shouldn’t there be a warning sign or something?”

This requires massive acts of civil disobedience. Citizens should stop at every one of the spots that do not require staff (like the turnaround) and take down the barricades. These should be hauled to the White House and thrown over the fence onto the lawn.
So, any FReeper, or any other concerned citizen passing by with a few minutes to spare should pull over, open the barrier, and continue on his way.
That’s cause they are looking for a corner.
The Forbes.com article is hugely biased. But, having written several papers on Wal-Mart I can tell you this. Whatever the cost they can add it as a surcharge on every item (over 500,000 of them) so they can recover the additional amount every week. I have no idea what the cost impact is but when I wrote my last paper on them in 2007 they were outselling all other competing retailers and had 50% of the entire market. So, it may be just a few percent on every item. They can make this change overnight from their central office. (Wal-Mart shoppers averaged the lowest income of all the shopping competitors; $25,000. So, whatever it is it’s a tax on the poorest people in the nation.)
Actually I am very surprised that all of the interstate highways have not been Barrycaded. .
Government watchdog Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act request to get to the bottom of the National Park Services actions at the World War II Memorial in Washington this week. The NPS has barricaded the memorial and on Tuesday tried to prevent veterans from visiting the memorial, which has no amenities and is normally open to the public at all times.
The National Park service has closed facilities that are either unmanned or take no federal funding, and says that the Obama administration ordered the shutdown. Anna Eberly, managing director of the Claude Moore Colonial Farm in Virginia, told Tatler that the NPS is renting the barricades that it is using to enforce the closures, an increase in the services operating costs at a time that the government is partially shut down.

Good comment but I think it was meant for a different thread.
If you knew progressives like I know progressives, they indeed can get lost in a turn around.

That parkway GW from 495 Beltway to Chain Bridge is a MAJOR MAJOR route for the POLS that live in McLean and the mansions along the river.....Also main access to CIA is off that route.
NOT TO FEAR, if it can be SCREWED UP, the FED will somehow overcome adversity and SCREW IT UP ROYALLY.
Also when you look whose ‘checks’ will NOT be encumbered is proof that at ONE time POLS were paying into Social Security..
Notice POLS, Judges, etc INCLUDING SSA checks are still being disbursed.....
Look for them to fix that ‘glitch’ when feasible....
“Good comment but I think it was meant for a different thread.”
Sigh. You are correct. Thank you. Too many windows open. Will try to do better. (Freepers occasionally send me comments and I wonder, “what the heck was that about?” Now, I know.)
I had a friend who got lost going down a one-way street, so it is possible. She rescued herself though, so helicopters weren’t called in.
I’m surprised obama didn’t try to shut down the internet.
