Jim Joyce's blown "safe" first base call on what was the 27th consecutive out of Armando Galarraga's perfect game was the most egregious call I've ever seen.
Jerry Meal's blown "safe" at home call on an obvious out cost the Pirates a game in the 19th inning in 2011 against the Braves. Thereafter the Pirates went in a tailspin and extended their consecutive losing season record.
I've watched more baseball this year than I have for a long time and I'm appalled at the number of bad calls.
I've been a baseball purist, but times change, the quality of umpiring is on decline, and I'm now all for video replays.

I have to disagree very slightly. While the Joyce call was off by a half a step and was bad, it's only arguably a
very bad call because of what was at stake. It's a shame it ruined a perfect game, but the call
per se is only terrible and not the worst call ever.
In the instant case this might very well be the worst call in the history of the game. There is no attempt at a tag with the glove -- as a matter of fact, even with the ungloved hand he's nowhere near the runner. It's not a question of a tenth of a second or less. There simply was nothing even resembling a put-out in the vicinity of the play.
