Skipper Jimmy Spithill and Oracle Team USA won the 34th America's Cup today in one of the greatest comebacks in sports history.
Spithill steered Oracle's space-age, 72-foot catamaran to its eighth straight victory, speeding past Dean Barker and Emirates Team New Zealand in the winner-take-all Race 19 on San Francisco Bay to keep the oldest trophy in international sports in the United States.
All but defeated a week ago, the 34-year-old Australian and his international crew twice rallied from seven-point deficits to win 9-8 Wednesday.

The official score is Oracle 9-8 but, the real story is they won by 3!!!
After being penalized by two races Oracles actual win is 11-8!!!
And! They scored a new world record for completing the race today.
Just Amazing!!!
And nary a mention of what “sport” this might be.
Let me guess:
Kickball?
Very exciting comeback.....Award Ceremony at 3pm Pacific; 6pm East Coast......on NBC Sports ch. 90 on FIOS..
They never gave up and kept fine tuning & finding ways to ‘lighten the Oracle’......HOOOOORAY!
So cheaters do prosper!
“America’s Cup”

CongratS USA
An analysis of the above would lead the casual observer to conclude that this was a boat race. Key words: catamaran, San Francisco Bay.
Abbreviated as A Cup. :^)
It was a fantastic series.
I was bitchin’ about these boats compared to monohulls but seeing a 72 ft. catamaran doing 46 mph downwind.. just WOW!!!
Coming back from 8- 1 , amazing.
These races are on Youtube if you’re interested.
In 1964 I was learning to steer{?) a friend’s boat in Edgartown Harbor and almost ran into an America’s Cup vessel that was moored there. They were visiting.
I quit my boating life that day.
.
Bush’s fault!
Larry put the fix in.
It’s the America’s Cup, old chap.
Me thinks you haven’t been down to the yacht club lately.
