is located about an hour south of Traverse City on US-31, just outside of the small town of Honor [Michigan]. It is proudly ‘family owned and operated since 1953′. A trip to The Cherry Bowl is like stepping back into the 1950s.

With a few exceptions: Louie Prima, Porter Waggoner, Ferlin Husky, Lionel Hampton, Roy Orbison(as well as a few others) almost all of that stuff was crapola.

Hell, cat, I've got more than that right stacked in rows under my TV set. And some of these albums, we didn't own but I recall seeing at other people's houses or elsewhere in the 50s.

a 6-grade buddy of mine in El Paso sneaked out of his parents bedroom to show to me.

that a 3rd grade classmate of mine brought to school for 'Show and Tell" in Natchez.

I was serious about my question. Was this record put out by some off shoot company that picked up recordings from other sources and grouped them on an album with their own graphics? I really can’t imagine Lawrence Welk, Pat Boone, or the Lennon Sisters approving that picture on their work.
I don’t think artists had the same control in the 50s over the re-recording of their work as they have today. I remember Christmas albums being sold by the “4 Roses Society” (a whiskey company and sold in liquor stores) that were marketed for very little money (a couple of bucks apiece) that were consolidations of many artists singing Christmas songs. No naked ladies on the covers. But, they were sold cheap to get people into the liquor stores. I had several because they were only a couple of bucks apiece, whereas an LP album at a music store might cost $10.

Is that our own Andy Griffith of Matlock fame?
I do remember reading one time that Griffith had been a music major in college. Ever since, I’ve noticed how often he incorporated a music theme into the various Matlock episodes.
Either he was conducting the church choir, or he was pickin’ on a guitar, or banjo, with some itinerant that he’d picked up and was defending. He was a good musician — at least the TV made him seem so.

Did you realize that she's the mother of Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order, SVU fame? I keep trying to see a resemblance between the two and can't -- other than their statuesue physiques. Facially, they don't look alike.

Yes. I can see a resemblance to Mariska there. I think that they made a marketing descision the try to make up Jayne to look as much like Marilyn Monroe as they could.
