You betcha. I would wear white gloves (summer),black kid gloves (winter), a dress and high heels before heading into the city. No malls in those days.

Some people even look like slobs at church.

I was completely spoiled by my first plane trip, 1962, off to college in CA flying first class on TWA from Logan. Everybody, men and women, dressed to the nines. Women in dresses and heels, men in jackets and ties (including yours truly, of course).

My room-mate and I had a nice little round table to ourselves and a fresh deck of cards, passing a pleasant five hours playing gin and enjoying the cocktails that magically kept appearing. And smoking, smoking non-filtered Camels.

Today's airport cattle calls are a far cry from when travel was exciting and fun.
