In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
aegis (EE-jis) noun
Protection, support, guidance, or sponsorship of a particular person or organization.
Example sentence:
"The French hope that by April an African force will have come under the UN's aegis.
--"The Battle Moves to the Mountains; The Economist (London, UK); Feb 9, 2013.
Etymology:
From Latin aegis, from Greek aigis (goatskin), from aix (goat). Aigis was the name of the shield or breastplate of Zeus or Athena in Greek mythology. It was made of goatskin. Earliest documented use: 1704.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

I was appalled to learn yesterday that under the aegis of her remarkable achievements as Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano has become the President of my alma mater, the formerly renowned University of Calilfornia at Berkeley. How far have the mighty fallen.

Did I need a sarcasm tag on that?

She'll be a perfect fit. A for you.
Huge production going on in this house which started yesterday. Youngest child has an enormous project for her Spanish class and I'll be bringing it up to school shortly. We made Chiles en Nogada last night for 25 and the shopping alone was a pain, not to mention roasting and peeling poblanos. Heck, finding them was a 3 store trip with phone calls.

Yes and Yes!
My husband and I graduated and bought our first house about 6 months before Savio hit the streets and the headlines and turned the town upside down. We lasted 5 years before we gathered up our children and moved to get away from all the riots and street marches.
There is a book called “Subversives” that is a pretty accurate depiction of the tumultous era. My only bone to pick with the author is that he paints a too sympathetic picture of Savio. Although, at the time, I considered Savio and his cohorts street thugs, Savio (himself) is really an example of a wasted life. I imagine that drugs had a lot to do with it.

A+ for you! I am running back and forth to the kitchen, throwing everything together to take up to the school. Huge production and I hope she realizes why delegation would have been nice.

This aegis is just our version of “age is”. Now don’t make fun here, spelling baries a lot according to Marlow the Mad.
