Word For The Day, Wednesday, 9/18/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
portend; verb
verb (used with object) 1. to indicate in advance; to foreshadow or presage, as an omen does: The street incident may portend a general uprising. 2. to signify; mean.
Etymology: early 15c., from L. portendere "foretell," originally "to stretch forward," from por- (variant of pro-) "forth, forward" + tendere "to stretch, extend" (see tenet). Online Etymology Dictionary, © 2010 Douglas Harper
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Would ‘pretend’ be a shepherd giving pre-natal care to a ewe?
you are sooooo that camel, vast!
The tire pressure light in my car looks like someone is mooning me. It literally looks like this (_!_) except the lines across the bottom are squiggly. First time it came on I didn’t know what it was. I had to look it up in the owners manual to find out what the signal was. I wondered why my dashboard was flashing a butt at me.
self importent/ant in EVERY way! A+++
another YINZER, welcome, welcome! A+++
you are soooooo right!

ha! good one! and yes, entitlements will be what bring about the end. A+++

That’s the universal symbol for check the tires. Yes, indeed.
yes, i guess that’s the universal symbol, bc that’s what the Toyotas have and this Ford has the same one.
I didn’t think anyone went on unsupervised test drives anymore.
There was a good one in the paper recently where a lady was cited for repeatedly banging her car door into the adjacent car at the Shop N Save. Someone must have been down to her last straw.
LOL!!
My parents and all my siblings are Yinzers.
Thankfully for me, my parents and I lived in Ohio
until after I had learned to talk.
Ohio is cool. They sell us Yinzers fireworks.
the intonation in the fridge episode is perfect. when he says “yinz eat all my klondikes?” THAT is the stereotypical intonation.
When I was walking to the football game the other day, I heard this dad say to his 2 little girls “Why ain’t yinz wearing long pants?”
Which was funny for the language, but also cause, like, hello? Who is the parent here?
LMAO, he needs to send them dahn to Pants’n’nat!
