CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Apple says its next mobile operating system, iOS 7, will be available as a free download on Sept 18.
Craig Federighi, head of software at Apple Inc., said at an event at the company's Cupertino, Calif., headquarters that "downloading iOS 7 is like getting an all new device."

owners should be aware, this isn't just a small software change with some new apps. They will be getting a radically different version of the iPhone and iPad software they have known.
Looks like I’ll hold off from updating the itoys for the ladies in my house.
Developer peeps been payin too much tension to androids. Apple snuck by em.
Thanks Berlin_Freeper.
I’m very frustrated with my iPhone and iPad. I can’t turn on wifi on my iPhone. It won’t even give me the option with a slide button. Just nothing. My iPad does not have an upgrade option upon visiting the settings app. I’d love to update both. Grrrr. I just don’t have time to go to an Apple store right now, and all the suggestions I’ve read online don’t work.
Can you call 1800 MY APPLE for advice?
I think i had to upgrade the modem, or the way the security of the wifi network works.
Right, those dumb android guys (who have a true mutitasking/muti-user mobile OS) will never be able to make a candie colored operating system.

I think you missed the humor/sarc in my comment. :)
I was referring to the observation in some of the articles, that a lot of app developers were caught unawares (or seemingly unawares) by Apple going to 64-bit, etc. Had nothing to do with candy-colored OSes or plastic phones.
Besides, being a Linux fan, I have nothing whatsoever against Android, I think it's great. I'm not in favor of Apple's closed approach, most of the time I'd prefer they weren't so tight-a$$ed.
Sorry, total misread by me. It seems these big companies often neglect the developers. Microsoft does the same thing. As always, with a new operating system, its probably a good idea if less adventurous users wait a few weeks before upgrading.
In my professional life I'm a system administrator. My stance there is even more reserved, because my company's operation depends more on stability and reliability, than on having the latest-and-greatest.
Neglecting developers is death to any software company. The larger ones just make it more obvious, Ballmer's famous "Developers!" chant notwithstanding.
