mlizzy, I started trying to grow food plants about last March and knew nothing - never grew any kind of plant in my entire life. Since I don't know I can't do “x” in gardening, I do “x” and see what happens. I did listen to Johnny and greeneyes when I started and also started doing my own research.
When I found Egyptian Walking Onions, I wanted them as I would never be without onions. I am also a prepper and plan for emergencies so these onions fit my prepper style.
The onions will take over the land wherever you plant them as they do walk. I planted them in the wood planter so they would have to stay in the container and not take over the dirt garden. When they put out the walking part of the onion I will move it to stay within the planter as that walking part could go outside the planter and plant itself in the dirt garden. The planter is probably ten feet long and about 7-8 inches across and about 7 inches deep. I have it filled with Miracle Grow potting soil mix.
