A Utah dad fed up with his daughter’s preference for very short shorts decided to teach her a lesson by donning some Daisy Dukes of his own.
Scott Mackintosh was about to go on a family night out, but when he asked his daughter to kindly change into longer shorts and she refused, he took some scissors to an old pair of his own jeans.
The result was a revealing pair of cut-offs designed to show his daughter her shorts aren’t ‘as cute as she thinks.’
‘In our family we have pretty definite modesty guidelines,’ writes Mackintosh on his wife Becky’s blog.
One of those guidelines happens to be no short-shorts.
‘I’m a firm believer that the way we dress sends messages about us, and it influences the way we and others act,’ he writes.
Every Monday, the Mackintoshes do something together ‘in an effort to try to spend time with just the family.’
Last Monday, they decided to go out to eat.
But as they were about to leave, Mackintosh’s teen daughter was resolute—she would not change out of her Daisy Dukes.
At first, the kids had their heads buried in their phones, Mackintosh said, and didn’t notice his revealing attire.
‘Why are you dressed like that?’ his daughter eventually asked when they were nearly at the restaurant. ‘Oh well, I don’t care.’
Dinner came and went without Mackintosh’s daughter breaking a sweat, so he decided to take things to the next level.
‘OK, let’s go miniature golfing,’ he said.

Intervening in/molding her choices sooner would have been more productive.
Good for the dad.
But why? Why were those shorts in the house in the first place? Did the daugher buy them with her own money? Perhaps.
But most likely - Dad (or mom) bought them. In my house - those shorts would have just “disappeared”.
Another alternative would have been to just not go out as a family.
Did they buy the shorts for her?
Now that school is back in session on my drive to pick up my kids at their private school I have to drive by a large public high school and junior high. The things these girls wear is appalling.
OTOH the boys just look stupid in their skater apparel.
Um, her father tells her to change and she refused? In my house, she would have stayed home and starved.
While I think his approach probably worked, I can’t imagine telling my dad that I would not obey his rules. He would have told me the door is locked and you’re not leaving dressed like that. And there would have been none of this I-paid-for-it-so-I-can-wear-what-I-want crap. Sure, I had a job and bought my own clothes, but I was also made to return clothing that did not meet with my parents’ approval.
Come on, parents, bring down the gavel! Doesn’t anyone teach respect for authority anymore?

The kid would just call SRS and file a complaint against the parent...as they were taught in school.
I went to the link. And I have to admit, the dad has some decent legs.
TO be avoided if a parent starts out early....but waiting until she is a teen, useless.
WInning by means of Humiliation may not be the best method.
Becky should wear them.
