This is my idea of a retro doomsday home, complete with creature comforts.

Yes we’re gonna have a wingding
A summer smoker underground
It’s just a dugout that my dad built
In case the reds decide to push the button down
We’ve got provisions and lots of beer
The key word is survival on the new frontier

I’d buy it but I have trouble vacuuming and dusting my modest 1200 sq. ft. condo...........Does it come with a maid?

Really nice and the key I think is being well lit. The bright lights simulate outdoors and you can see clearly and brightly.
Now, what happens down there if the power goes out? Say, I dunno, a massive nuclear strike on Las Vegas, Nellis AFB, the Hoover dam, etc, etc?
How would I tell by feel that the plastic rose is red?

They are typical for their era (actually quite nice).
Nothing a little face lift can’t fix.

That is as fancy as I have seen, but they often show very large and exotic shelters on National Geographic’s Prepper series.
Tough luck if one is not close to it when needed in an emergency, but some people live in theirs full time.
Shelters were touted even back in the 50s. I remember them being on display at the Mid-South fair in Memphis.
It was about the same time that the city installed air-raid
sirens at every fire station.

It’s the era I grew up in. It’s very dated but it was never good taste. Awful!
Call the demolition crew.

I loved that movie. On of the best parts is when Walken finds out there was no nuclear war and he tells his son not to tell his mother. If he had never built the shelter they would have died when the airplane hit the house.

I may be mistaken, but I think this “house” was featured in a episode of CSI Las Vegas...
