Today is a great day not only in Australian history, but also in world history. It marks the day when people of character and sensibility pushed back against an overwrought and pointless green agenda, and pushed back in a big way. Theyve had enough, and theyve scraped the Krudd off their shoes and are moving forward.
Tony Abbot has won the Australian election in a landslide, and vows to abolish the carbon tax as a first order of business. Abbott has declared Australia is once more open for business in claiming victory in Saturdays election.
It is a huge blow to the Rudd-Gillard labor party and their green goals, which were built on a lie foisted on the Australian people. In 2010 when Gillard said no carbon tax in a videotaped speech that has been seen as the key moment Australians lost trust: Then, shortly after she was elected prime minister, she acted as if those words were never spoken, and implemented a carbon tax anyway. Theres nothing worse than a liar who is oblivious to their own lies, and in my opinion, this was the catalyst that set the stage for the end of labors green dream as well as their dominance in government.
Abbot says he will abolish the carbon tax. In an August 5th Herald Sun article:
If elected, the coalition on day one would suspend the CEFC (Clean Energy Finance Corporation) and prepare legislation to shut it down permanently. Its vowed to introduce legislation within a fortnight designed to abolish the carbon tax, and all government climate agencies associated with Labors clean energy laws.

Thank goodness. We still have a refuge (a backup to Texas).
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls our climates.
3. The earth is a rock.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
That is very good news!
I haven’t visited watts up with that for a long time. Went there for weather and globull warming info etc. I’m glad you posted this, I can bookmark that site again.
Meanwhile, the gigantic California Air Resources Board fortress skyscraper is busy regulating every manufacturing job out of California in the name of global warming/climate change.
I’ll say it one more time!!!
We need to defund CARB now and repurpose the skyscraper into a world trade center of the west.
Indeed.
When people start squawking about the “environment” I ask them if their state has an EPA.
If the answer is yes — then there is nothing for them to worry about.
If the answer is no — then they should move to a state which does.
Good question.
In California, I’m hoping my second amendment rights are restored to full constitutional levels some day too.
Another article I read today said the carbon tax will take 3 years to eliminate. Why so long?
Too late for the USA. Australia still has some standards about who can come into their country and vote.
maybe you missed the blogger’s play on words?
How much did your electric rates increase under the last gang of morons?
Does any good FReeper have a contact in Melbourne that could aid me in moving there for work? Software product or project management.
Australia theoretically outlawed guns.
Congrats in pushing back the Socialist agenda!
Australian gun laws suit Australia, they wouldn’t work in the US, we have an entirely different demographic and a totally different culture.
You can stop making that irrelevant comparison. For some stupid reason, every time that country is mentioned on FR, immediately there are several comments about our gun laws.
THERE ARE NO COMPLAINTS BEING MADE BY THE CITIZENS.
We have a small population and a low crime rate you would (pun intended) die for.
LOL.
Australia has my respect more and more.
Global Warming on Free Republic
I had a $1444 electricity bill last summer (large household) and that was up from $780 the summer before - so it almost doubled as a direct result of the carbon tax.
