I agree. It’s goofy already, though, with their current name...IMO, they need to pick one of the other. Either LA Angels and Anaheim Angels (or back to California Angels). The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is one of the silliest names I recall.
I suppose if the New York Giants and NY Jets can play in New Jersey, the LA Angels can play in Anaheim, right??
I think it was Jay Leno who said that their cross-town rivals are the “Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles”
Exactly, New York Giants and New York Jets don’t play in that city. Neither do Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins. Maybe some others are like that too.
When the Los Angeles Rams moved to Anaheim years ago, they kept the Los Angeles Rams name, and nobody said anything about them not being Anaheim Rams.
It was a marketing thing for the team to change their name to Los Angeles Angels. They wanted to draw fans from all over Southern California, not just primarily Orange County.
The sports writers tend to call them Los Angeles Angels and don’t include the “of Anaheim” in sports reports when discussing the team.
Even though they are in a suburb of L.A. they are still L.A.’s American League team.
It was a marketing ploy by Moreno to try to get more L.A. residents to drive down and fill seats in his stadium. Ridiculous. I agree with the poster above the said they should use the “California Angels” moniker from back in the day.
