A mother-of-three has completely shunned modern life in favour of 1940s glamour, ensuring her clothes, house, car, food, and even her friends match the style of the era.
Forensic psychiatric nurse Christine Edun, 55, who lives in Formby, Merseyside, has dedicated her whole life to emulating the style of the decade since she was a teenager, when she began spending hours scouring vintage markets looking for authentic pieces of clothing from the decade.
Christine loved the style of the fashion, the music and the films, and though her childhood obsession started with dresses and handbags, when she moved into her own home Christine started looking for 1940s style furniture, and now says her house is like a treasure trove for vintage goods.
'One of my favourite parts of dressing the way I do is the lingerie and nightwear, and I have even launched my own business selling beautiful underwear online called Femme Fatale.
'The vintage knickers, camis, corsets, stockings and suspenders are so feminine and they feel so beautiful under your clothes.
'The nightwear is also so beautiful. I have gorgeous silk dressing gowns that make me feel like an on-screen goddess!'

I always thought ladies’ fashions from the mid-to-late-1930s a bit more attractive than the 40s. More streamlined, more flowy, more feminine. The 1940s veered more stolid and clunky, with overdone hairdo’s and dresses with shoulderpads.
I love the BBC Poirot series, which is set in the 30’s. The sets, fashion, hairstyles and make up, all very authentic.

This is the first time ever that I’ve heard “it” referred to as “text”. LOL
It was the last time people in Britain felt that they had a sense of purpose and community solidarity through shared hardship. I think that is what is missed. Compared to that, there is something rather hollow about the materialism, decadence and degeneracy of modern Britain.

Makes me wonder why there's never any reaction to the adult boys who collect classic or vintage cars. Some are really into it with goggles and scarfs, long touring coats, rallys, shows, clubs, parades, 6-car garages, you name it. Does anyone think Jay Leno is a kook for his passion for old cars? I saw and loved the museum of antique-to-DeLorean cars in Sarasota, Florida. Does that make me a kook?
I think this lady loves life, history, vintage things, pretty things, happy things....and other people. Her hobby and lifestyle undoubtedly don't afford her much spare time to sit at a keyboard to constantly criticize and make fun of her fellow human beings for being involved in innocent pastimes.

I love 40’s hair. Yes, there were some more tortured styles a la Joan Crawford or Ginger Rodgers, but I tend to think of it as big loose waves remembering my Mom’s style - long, flowing - think Rita Hayworth, Maureen O’Hara or Veronica Lake.
The 30’s they were addicted to fingerwaves and tight curls and lots of platinum blonde that must have been totally toxic.
When outside only younger women wore their hair free. Women usually never went anywhere without a hat. You really didn’t see a lot of loose hair.

You have a good point, regarding Hayworth/Lake, and their hairstyle. That’s why I was also differentiating between early-to-mid-30s and the mid-to-late-30s fashions. I vastly prefer the latter.
As for bands, I’m particularly partial to Bob Crosby’s. But I like most of the bands, even down to the less-commonly cited ones, like Jimmie Lunceford, Will Bradley, Gene Krupa, Glen Gray, and such.
