LOL - They know the part they are playing, and they play it well. Ignorant and stupid are to very different things. I do not believe any of them are either one.
Additionally, they strike me as wise enough to know that if fame or money get in the way of who they are, they will not walk away... they will run.
That's two funny.
I like the show and I like the show's message. It's the only "modern" (read, post 1970) adult TV show I let my kids watch, without any qualms. And I like Phil. I aspire to be a curmudgeon like him.
However, the Robertsons get paid each week for doing what amounts to a 30 minute commercial for their business. It's watched - not just tolerated like a commercial, but really watched - by millions. Far more than any paid advertisement would.
Redneck doesn't mean "dumb", Jack. :-)
When calling people ignorant and stupid, you may want to proof check just to make sure it doesn’t hit you in the face.

“Wise”... You got that right. We are close enough here in Memphis and surrounding areas to see these guys every once in a while at an outdoor expo or something. Fine folks.
Oh, and in case there are a few who didn’t already know, here’s an excerpt from a quickly Bing’d article (link at end)
“Yet Robertson, who first found wealth as the inventor of the Duck Commander duck calls and then fame as the patriarch of a clan of Louisiana duck hunters on A&Es Duck Dynasty reality series, is no backwoods bumpkin. Hes a multi-millionaire with a masters degree in education. Hes also perhaps the best athlete ever to come out of the little town of Vivian, La.
In the 1960s, Robertson, now 66, was the starting quarterback at Louisiana Tech for two seasons ahead of Terry Bradshaw. His teammates and a coach recall him as a talented, outdoors-obsessed character who walked away from his final year of eligibility to spend more time hunting and fishing, but had the talent to play in the NFL”
