The idea was to make Jesse think he’d lost the ricin and the kid had ingested it. It was really all a “get it together” lesson.

Disagree...the idea was to make Jesse think that Gus was framing Walt for poisoning the kid. Jesse confronted Walt who convinced him that Gus was the only one truly evil enough to poison a kid, and that he was being set up so that Jesse would murder him (Walt). The intent was to turn Jesse back away from Gus who was bringing him into the fold and back onto Walt's side (who was trying to kill Gus).

I think Mmichaels has it right. I forgot that was during the Gus luring Jesse section, not during one of the Jesse whacked out on drugs section.
