The father of teen star Miley Cyrus said the Disney TV show "Hannah Montana" that made her a worldwide star, in truth destroyed his family, and he blamed it for sending his daughter out of control.
Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus said he was scared for 18 year-old Miley after a series of scandals including an infamous video last year which showed her getting high on the psychedelic herb salvia.
And he said he wished that "Hannah Montana" had never happened.
"The damn show destroyed my family," Cyrus told GQ magazine in an interview for its March edition. "I'd take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just everybody be okay, safe and sound and happy and normal would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I'd erase it all in a second if I could."
Cyrus, 49, played father to his daughter on "Hannah Montana" -- a wholesome Disney Channel show about a normal teenager by day but a singing star at night -- that launched Miley Cyrus as a teen idol and top-selling recording artist.
"Hannah Montana" launched in 2006 and ended after four seasons in January 2011.
Last October, the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer filed for divorce from his wife Tish after a 17-year marriage.
Cyrus compared his daughter's current situation to celebrities like Kurt Cobain, Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson, who all died in tragic circumstances.
"I'm scared for her," Cyrus said of Miley. "She's got a lot of people around her that's putting her in a great deal of danger. I know she's 18 but I still feel like, as her daddy, I'd like to try to help. Take care of her just a little bit, to at least get her out of danger.
I’d have more sympathy if he had not rented her out for a nekkid photo shoot when she was 15.
Disney knew Mylie was going out of control. When the last Hannah Montana ended, they yanked it from airing and have never showed it again.
In fact I acknowledged that in my post. Nevertheless, a parent’s subsequent guilt and regret is not something I’m inclined to pooh-pooh. I feel for the guy and his family.
Everyone sees the train comin’
except the drunk walkin’ down the tracks.
Looking/acting like a whore in front of millions....what could go wrong?
“Aw man, I gotta get me some of dat...”
Actually I just posted the article - I can't believe the posting action to this story so far ... My kids have turned out fairly successful. I wonder how much is due to me, and how much is due to the Lord and the church they grew up in ...
We deal with Nickelodeon here on Sunset every day. You should witness the parents of these child actors who act like children themselves. I won’t tell you which specific show but Teen Nick’s lineup, the managers of these kids are certified a-holes. I heard worse stories on the set about Hannah M from the set guys.
This article is garbage. The 'psychedelic herb salvia' is a misnomer, or, more likely, showing the author's ignorance (and/or helping sensationalise the story).
'Salvia' is nothing more or less than good old salvia officianalis, i.e. common sage, such as you use in stuffing a T-Day turkey.
Almost surely, the herb that the twit used was salvia divinorum, which has psychoactive properties for SOME individuals. To omit the descriptor of 'salvia' is either sheer ignorance or outright journalistic (and I use that term very loosely) malfeasance.
They’ll be in more demand when she dies tragically...magically Disney will just happen to have the Best of Hannah Montana and anything else Miley Cyrus already slickly produced and ready for sale.
They’ve been chewing up and spitting out kids for decades now and the parents of these kids never learn...
Billy Rae (sic) didn't do anything right.
you are full of crap.
That's a possibility, but it doesn't vitiate my real point. Sometimes people illustrate the home truths, like, "If you raise your children to think there are no standards, they'll act like people with no standards." However, I still feel bad for them. Not really strongly, but some.
Sometimes a picture IS worth a thousand words.
Fixed it.
Karoke singing “Achy Breaky Heart” totally ruined my cool image!
I wish you could tell some tales!
Bull, he liked the money and promoter her feverishly.
