The father of teen star Miley Cyrus said the Disney TV show "Hannah Montana" that made her a worldwide star, in truth destroyed his family, and he blamed it for sending his daughter out of control.

Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus said he was scared for 18 year-old Miley after a series of scandals including an infamous video last year which showed her getting high on the psychedelic herb salvia.

And he said he wished that "Hannah Montana" had never happened.

"The damn show destroyed my family," Cyrus told GQ magazine in an interview for its March edition. "I'd take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just everybody be okay, safe and sound and happy and normal would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I'd erase it all in a second if I could."

Cyrus, 49, played father to his daughter on "Hannah Montana" -- a wholesome Disney Channel show about a normal teenager by day but a singing star at night -- that launched Miley Cyrus as a teen idol and top-selling recording artist.

"Hannah Montana" launched in 2006 and ended after four seasons in January 2011.

Last October, the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer filed for divorce from his wife Tish after a 17-year marriage.

Cyrus compared his daughter's current situation to celebrities like Kurt Cobain, Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson, who all died in tragic circumstances.

"I'm scared for her," Cyrus said of Miley. "She's got a lot of people around her that's putting her in a great deal of danger. I know she's 18 but I still feel like, as her daddy, I'd like to try to help. Take care of her just a little bit, to at least get her out of danger.

did you see the video of Miley’s mother applauding her daughter’s obscene act wildly at the show?

THAT is the poor child’s major problem

TRASHY PARENTING

in a trash industry town

Yup. Never should have gotten involved with Disney.

I'm really not a betting person, but I do get interested when I see sure things. Mylie Cyrus overdosing before age 30 is pretty even odds, but in the next 89 days? Not so much.

As to the NYC mayor race, I wouldn't put anything past those self-absorbent losers that make up the majority of the NYC voters.

Her acting out may be telling us something happened to her that she can’t talk about.

That is an excellent point, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if you were right.

My new short story is now a thread on FR.

The Miley Cyrus story today jumped out at me.

"The ubiquitous entertainment screens were perfect for one thing (and they kept this distinction right to the end): distracting the masses. Better than any mule’s blinkers, the pleasure screens both attracted the eyes and fed the mind happy messages. Whatever you wanted, they were serving it 24/7 on a thousand television channels and a million interactive websites. Pick your poison. Entertain yourself to death.

"What was the name of that pop star vixen at the last Super Bowl? She was wearing a dominatrix outfit with shiny sharpened rivets in the usual places. And where did she come by her Aldous Huxley, singing “hug me till you drug me, kiss me till I’m in a coma,” nearly word for word from Huxley’s Brave New World? No doubt she’d never read a book in her life, much less that one."

I guess he & her mother had nothing to do with it.

Of course, not. Karma's just a b*tch. I hate karma.

Her acting out may be telling us something happened to her that she can’t talk about.

In the case of someone who grew up in "normal" circumstances I would agree, but in Miley's case it is more likely to be the cumulative impact of a million bad parenting decisions, all related to the non-judgmental, amoral and immoral influence of Hollywood and parents therein.
