And fabricated to inflame: the actual butler was the son of a hard working but poor black family, and NOT the product of the rape of his mother by a white man (who then shoots the butler’s father to death when he tries to intervene). Those things didn’t happen and there was no reason to add them except to inflame black grievance passions.
Also, the butler’s wife was not pressured into an affair with a powerful white; the couple was happily married for nearly 60 years, I believe, until their deaths.
This was a disgusting example of taking what could have been an interesting, sympathetic story about a man who worked hard and triumphed against adversity and turning it into an ideologically motivated, race-baiting lie-fest.
This is so sad because the movie could have been beneficial to black families - instead, like you said - it will inflame the race wars.
