I was watching a cooking show and the cast preparing a Engagement Feast for a Guy and this Smoking 1/2 Korean Girl. I have known quite a few Koreans but she looked like a semi-round rye, Viet Nam term.
It kicked me back to late 1967, when driving through the front gate of Cu Chi base camp, I saw a hot smoking young lady sitting out side the gate, as opposed to squatting, waiting for someone. I had done a tour through the cat houses of Cu Chi so I knew she wasn't one of the local talent.
I asked my driver who the round eye was. He told me, being wiser in the ways of the world than I was at the time, 3/4 French and an Officers Bimbo.
Flash forward 11 Years. I went to work for ICI Americas and my Boss was Dutch, 3/4 Dutch and 1/4 Javanese, POW during WW2, a real great Engineer and Mentor. He married a Dutch girl and all the kids were white- blond, his oldest son was killed in VN.
Several years ago Race Bannon and I were in Delaware at a get together with his Marine Pals. The woman, who was the host, was half Japanese but her daughter was Blond and blue eyed, lovely young child.
Cute little girl. I was telling my brother a couple of days ago that given 3 Divisions and 10 years would convert central Asia to all blonds.
Some genes permit synthesis of a protein. Some don’t.
We have two chromosomes of each type, so that if you have a gene that makes a protein, and one that doesn’t make the protein, then you have a gene that makes the protein. Hybrid dominant.
If you have two genes that don’t make the protein, then you have no genes that make the protein. (recessive).
If you have two genes that make the protein, then you have a gene that makes the protein. (pure dominant)
Exception is sex chromosomes where women have two X chromosomes, and men have one X and one Y. some genes are recessive when in women and dominant when in men. Hemophilia is one of the more famous ones like that, but some forms of color blindness are too.
I do not care who you bred with nor the insults and barbs you put up with, ain't my problem. I want to know why certain genetic characteristics dominate.
But Hey! I KNEW that!!
But only AFTER I hit send, (sheepish hide.)
OK, so you are into the science of genetics. Good field to try to understand. It confounds me all to heck.
Recently there was a story of a black couple, wife gave birth to a red headed white child.
DNA PROVED that the kid was in fact theirs. (No milkman involved.)
Go Figure!!
My father had blue eyes, as did his parents and siblings
my mother had gray/green eyes and her family variations
My brother had blue eyes my older sister grey
However andother sister and I have dark brown eyes..
from where ???
Well my mother remembered she had an aunt or 2 with brown eyes the only ones amongst several lighter eye colored aunts and uncles..
we were “throw-backs”
My grey eyed sister married into a blue eyed family and had brown eyed children
and I married into a blue eyed family and had a blue eyed blonde boy and a brown eyed girl..
when my blue eyed boy was born someone declared that by the time he was 6 months old his eyes would turn brown as its impossible for a brown eyed person to have blue eyed off spring..
6 months came and went and those blue eyes did nt go anywhere..
We were reassigned to another base and someone at my new base argued with me that my flesh and blood son was not mine but the product of an earlier marriage my blue eyed husband and I was only his step mother..
I gave up trying to explain to the ijit..
that same boy is now 40 blue eyes and all..
and is the image of my father...
BTW his children are blue eyed blondes...
For animosity and group hatred, don’t look for any less conflict when the races mix, as they will. As they used to say in the mines, “Don’t put a Mick to work the same stope as a Johnny Bull or you’ll have blood.” We’re intensely tribal creatures. Racial differences make the identification of the enemy tribe easier but as the Japanese and the Koreans illustrate, it’s secondary. Tutsis and Hutus are another example. Both get along better with whites than each other.
There was a science lesson about green peas and yellow peas when i was in college
See my post below about my cousin’s grandchild looking like my other cousins.
I’m talking spitting image - hair color, eye color, eye shape, rather distinctive nose shape, freckles on his upper cheeks. I wonder how many genes go into generating that, let’s say, look.
100s? What are the odds after shuffling the genetic deck four times that combination comes up again?
Maybe the shuffling is as random, or efficient as we think?
Maybe the shuffling ISN’T as random, or efficient as we think?
I meant to say.
Stay away from French Canadians, seems to be some dallying when you got booted from NY.
Too late my great great grandfather and his father were both born in Canada..
but their family was booted from both NY and PA...
and their grandparents were French...
See a lot of Mexicans marrying black women. Pretty good arrangement, since he gets a green card and she gets a husband who has to be committed if he wants to be legal!
As someone who has attempted amateur sculpting of the human face, the differences which fascinate an artist will inevitably be perceived as racism. But you notice things that others don’t. For instance, the reason Obamas ears attract so much attention is not that they are so big, but that they are actually small for his head, but set on at a prominent angle.
It is not only unlikely that a blue eyed pair can produce a brown eyed child, it could be argued as impossible. Sometimes I’ll play that game in a room full of parents and children. You can pick out the stepchildren right away.
The picture of the black & white girls raises the question of their being identical or fraternal twins?
I was not aware identical twins could have different skin color or hair color/texture.
They have to be fraternal. Did it say identical anywhere? Identical twins are just that—mirror images of each other. The girls are just twins.
Adding to the conversation:
I know a family with five children. The older two (two years apart), girl and boy are blond and blue-eyed. The second two are fraternal twins, boy and girl, again blond hair and blue-eyed. New baby has almost black hair, lots of it, not sure of eye-color yet.
Children’s father (not sure of father’s side) and maternal grandfather are blond haired and blue-eyed. Their mom is very dark haired, almost olive skinned and dark-blue eyes. Her dad says his grandmother was Jewish, thus the dark complexion of his daughter.
If I remember right they were French, French rather than Canadian Frogs, they hated everyone.

I have met a Filipino Fella with Sky Blue eyes who Mother Was Norwegian.
