Humane Society Questions New WH Puppy: "Why Not A Rescue Dog?"
Breitbart ^ | August 21, 2013 | Larry O'Connor

Posted on 08/21/2013 9:58:46 AM PDT by Biggirl

When it came time to pick a little puppy pal for White House dog, Bo, the Obama family seems to have made the politically incorrect choice of purchasing a pure-bred instead of adopting a rescue dog from one of the many shelters that become the last stop for millions of dogs before they are euthanized.

Didn’t they settle on this breed because it won’t trigger one of the daughters’ allergies?

Getting a rescue dog is so... common!

Not good enough for Special People.

On june 28 I was able to complete the rescue of a pure bred lady german shepherd who had been abandoned and left to starve in the yard of her former owners home. She was in the yard with the puppies and her mate. The owners were divorcing and just left the dogs there.

The male was adopted, all but one of the pups, and the mama still needed a home.

When I first saw her she was a skeleton with teats. I have never seen a dog so skinny.

I have had her almost two months now, and she is just awesome. She looks absolutely stunning now, and is just a joy to be around.

She was my first rescue dog, and I have to say uniting with her was one of the best moves I’ve made in my life. I feel like God sent her to me.

That breed stuff goes right over the heads of homeless pets. All of them deserve a home regardless of background or coloration.

Drive a stake through my heart, I’m going to defend the Mahdi and Moochelle on this one. A little less than three years ago a wonderful dog of mine died and I set out to replace him with a Daneador (Dane/Lab cross) by doing internet searches. No luck. Then I went to Great Dane Rescue looking for a puppy. They had a long application process and were very reluctant to place puppies with anybody but people with special connections. Hence, I went to the regular market and was able to get a wonderful puppy for a little less than $1,000, including transportation and shots, just about what I would have spent with GD Rescue, but a lot fewer hassles. In short, it’s very hard to get a specific breed and age without going to a breeder, and I don’t blame the Obamas for doing what I did.

What a great story. You are great for doing this!

Also so tragic that people would just abandon the dog parents and puppies w/o making any attempt to take them to a local humane society. The process (of taking the animals to the humane society) is not that hard and is usually free.

I wish only the worst on the people who so callously abandoned these dogs and their puppies.

Because knowing the animal’s breeding history is a big factor in determining how good the meat will be.

Way to go Chris! You will not believe how often this occurs.

Also Bo and Sunny will be the only Obama’s that won’t have flies buzzing around them and using them for landing. =)

Sorry, but I hate to say I agree with Obama on this. He should make a deal with the Humane Society - You get whatever kind of dog you want and I’ll get whatever kind of dog I want.

Ah I really appreciate your compliment, but I cannot accept great, even though I feel great on the inside since doing it.

She is great! I cannot understand how anyone could abandon her. She is so affectionate, loyal and fun to be with. From what the dog rescue outfit told me, this couple was breeding GSD, then fell on bad times in the marriage. Apparently both of them wanted the dogs, then neither of them wanted the dogs, so the dogs were left in the yard of the empty house...

I was just a very sad man who lost his dog of 14 years 3 days earlier. I wasn’t thinking I’d get another dog, because they are expensive and when they die...it’s one of the worst times ever.

But on the third day it became clear to me that the only way to let the sadness out is to open the heart and let love in, so I googled german shepherd rescue outfits for nw florida, and hers was the first picture I saw. 2 days later I was driving home with her <3 <3.

What truly made me feel good was to see this skinny girl put muscle on her, to see her coat thicken, to see her run in my yard fetching her ball and then to play soccer with her, to walk her down the bike path to the horse and goat fields and watch her watch them, to feed her a piece of almost every single thing I eat, and to wake up with her jammed up next to me in my bed every day.

She needed me, and I needed her, and now we are best friends for life!
