We may be seeing more prominent gay and lesbian characters on TV shows, but the movie industry lags well behind the small screen, an advocacy group reports.
In its first study of LGBT roles in major studio releases, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation found that compared with TV, where there has been a significant shift over the past decade, Major studios appear reluctant to include LGBT characters in significant roles or franchises.
In its report released Wednesday, GLAAD found that of the 101 releases from Hollywoods six major studios in 2012, just 14 included characters identified as lesbian, gay, or bisexual. Most were no more than cameos or minor roles, it saidand none of the films tracked had transgender characters.
Until LGBT characters appear more regularly in these studio films, there will be the appearance of bias, said Wilson Cruz, GLAADs national spokesperson, in an interview. He added that his organization will be meeting with studio executives to discuss the findings.

I was thinking of Corey Haim.
A friend says it chilled him that Michael had a “memory” for boys that interested him.
There was some project my friend worked on. Michael learned the man had a son and invited him over for something or other. They never went.
Around 2 years later, (and I forget the circumstances of the communication/encounter) but Michael remembered the name of the man’s son, asked how he was doing, and again extended an invite. He event sent a signed photo to the man (who kept it from his son at the time, and has mentioned it to the son now grown to adulthood, who does not want it).

Welcome to FR.
Thank you.
Did you know that there are conservatives here?
Non sequitur.
The phrase “non sequitur” means “that does not follow”. In this website’s case, it most likely does.
Wow. These perverts are really sharp!
Apparently they haven't noticed that every otherwise entertaining TV series in the last few years which chose to show protracted and in your face gratuitous explicit gay activity which added nothing to the plot met a quick rejection and slow death.
A few come to mind...
Torchwood.
Revenge.
Stargate Universe.
Several more which, after I erased them from my hard drives, I try not to think about again.
Clueless, these producers. ay
Fortunately, the deviants have yet to achieve legislation to force me to buy a ticket to see a pervert movie.
How does it follow that I shouldn't comment on the talents of an actor (who, in this case, happens to be gay) because I'm doing so on a conservative forum?
The clueless little fag killed the Spiderman franchise all by himself.
I suspect a very large number of people who profited from the series are not amused...
Are you trying to put words in my mouth, so to speak? I never tried to tell you not to comment.
Perhaps I misinterpreted your comment when you said, "Did you know that there are conservatives here?". Could you be more explicit? I'm honestly confused as to why I'm being jumped on (it seems that way, at least) for simply pointing out that Ian McKellen is an extraordinarily gifted actor.
Fortunately, that's still a deeply personal individual assessment and choice.
Jeffrey Dahmer might have been a great actor too.
Posting about the fellow after someone else posted about him, in a thread about said actor’s personal lifestyle (although not about him personally) versus his career. That can be interpreted by some as a defense of said lifestyle.
I suppose that activity does affect the brain...
You were celebrating the fact that being a great actor, somehow rendered his flaming gayness invisible to conservatives.
It's not the epitome of mental health to mutilate hotel room bibles. Some might say it's a pathology. "Sicko" to you; great actor or not.
I'm certainly not defending the man's lifestyle; I'm just a fan of some of his film work (hence my comment). The fact that he's a gay activist simply doesn't have any impact on my enjoyment of the Lord Of The Rings films, or any other movies in which I've seen him perform.
There were always prissy closet cases in old movies, “gigolos”, floor walkers, pansies and sissies. Actors like Franklin Pangborn made a career out of roles like these. Audiences were sophisticated and got the joke.
Let it pass, after a while it just becomes background noise
Another one: Commander Susan Ivanova in Babylon 5 (1994-1998) was bisexual, the first portrayal of such in television science fiction.
Thanks!
