The only place I have ever lived where there wasn’t a mixture of black and white in my neighborhood was a very small town in Texas. It wasn’t a situation where blacks were pushed away- there were many folks involved in volunteer groups and city government and in business, but for the most part lived in a certain area of the city. But other than that one location, I’ve always seen families of all types living in the suburbs.

You live in a bustling region. There is new development and lots of people moving in and out.

Back home for me, not so much. People stay rooted and live in the same homes for a long time. So the effects of the one-time de facto segregation still are apparent.

My county is about 2% black.
