Maine man badly injured in Torngat Mountains National Park.
A U.S. hiker vividly recalls the night one of his fellow campers was pulled from his tent and attacked by a polar bear in Torngat Mountains National Park in northern Labrador.
Matt Dyer, a lawyer from Maine, was badly injured during the attack at around 1:30 a.m. AT on July 24.
Richard Eisenberg was with Dyer and six other hikers as part of a Sierra Club hiking trip to the remote park.
He said the group woke up to the sounds of Dyer screaming as he was dragged from his tent.
"He only screamed twice, and I saw the bear dragging the tent and then pulling Matt out of the tent and carrying him off," Eisenberg told CBS News.
The bear ripped through the electric fence the group had set up around their campsite that night.

Parks Canada strongly advises visitors to hire an armed bear guard during their stay, but it is not mandatory.
The Inuit bear guards are hired through the Nunatsiavut base camp set up within the park.
However, Castaneda-Mendez said his group was never offered the armed bear guard. He said his group was under the impression the portable electric fence was an adequate deterrent.

Let's hope they've belatedly acquired some respect for nature.
I was being generous ;)
When I was ED at Off-Road.com I had a lot of runnins and phone calls drom the Soerra Legal Defense fund. Even their lawyers are idiots.
Every time they called and threatened to sue us we’d gather round the speakerphone and mock them. Big fun ;)
They threatened to sue once because the Las Vegas Chapter got caught trying to have a motorized outing 40 miles into a no off road vehicle area and we did several articles on it.
I miss them days...
Ah, yes. Timothy Treadwell. Formerly known as "Grizzly Man." Now known as "Grizzly Poop."
If he’s a lawyer, probably tasted more like rattlesnake.
From the article: “The bear fence advertisement said that it
works as a deterrent.” And, “Another hiker, ... who was on the trip ..., said he thinks Parks Canada should strongly consider changing its policy for those visiting the Torngat Mountains.
Typical socialists (they’re in the Sierra Club): They
want new rules and regulations to protect them. They can’t
just say, We were not acting intelligently. Instead they
use their desire for more government intrusion for everyone
to mask the reality of their own poor choices.
Polar bears are arguably the most aggressive of all bears and most don’t have much fear of people unlike other bears outside of those that hung around idiots like Timothy Treadwell.
Someone needs to look into a lawsuit against these despicable Sierra Club members for scaring this poor bear.Three to five years of jail time sounds about right.
File under humor, Sierra Club hiking trip members out to see the pretty unspoiled wilderness and the endangered polar bears end up as crunchy munchies for the polar bears.
Deterrents aren't foolproof, idiot. Dogs can go through electric fences if determined enough, let alone 1000 pound Polar Bears that do what bears do - eat. As far as the guide goes, were you rude to the Inuit by claiming to know their backyard better than them?
Me too, and I’ve had 3 mugs of coffee. Heh.
Is woken a word? Should be awakened.
If only they could break into a rap, that would be priceless.
Seeing that coming my way would seriously change the color of my shorts.
Evidently the bear did not know or care about professional courtesy.
Seems the Sierra Club lawyer was so obnoxious even a polar bear couldn’t stand him.
“Matt Dyer, a lawyer from Maine, was badly injured during the attack”
Bear found that lawyers taste like CRAP and spit him out!!!
Aren't they cute???
I don’t know, but the bear could be heard growling something that sounded suspiciously like “finger lickin good”.
