I wonder - I thought in the George Zimmerman trial they retrieved texts from Trayvon’s phone that someone (possibly the prosecution or his family) deleted... Maybe I am wrong.

In the Trayvon case the texts were right there, not deleted. Angela Corey told her tech guy to hide then [not send them to the defense].

Both phones were lost in the fire.

Is there a way to get them?

The FBI are able to retrieve the content of their phone calls and since they had been called in on this case that crossed state borders they should have those recordings in their possession right about now.

they had the phone intact.
trayvon copied many of his texts to a second storage location. when original texts deleted, AFTER.his death , the defense was able to retrieve it from second location.
