NASA's First Step Towards a Replicator: 3D Printing in Space

Tea, Earl Grey, hot. Those are the words spoken by Capt. Picard to the computer when he wants his favorite beverage replicated. While we're still a long ways away from that becoming reality, we're taking steps toward it.

NASA will be taking that step when it takes a 3D printer up to the International Space Station in June 2014.

I dunno.

In Star Trek VI we are told that firing a phaser onboard sets off alarms.

That rule was/is never heard from before or after.

So I guess in space no one can hear you print....

Yes. But what does this have to do with NASA’s primary mission of funneling money and technology to Muslim terrorists?!

It would be really good to be able to replicate spare parts via printer instead of having to have a spare of every essential part.
