I have always thought he got a bum deal.
I agree with every word you posted.

Remember Willie Mays Aikens?
Because of the tougher federal guidelines for crack, he was sentenced as if he had sold fifteen pounds of powder cocaine. He received the maximum sentence of fifteen years and eight months, and received an additional five years because he allegedly had a loaded gun in the room where the drugs were sold.[14]
On February 1, 2011, the Royals announced that they had hired Aikens as a minor league coach who will be based at the franchise’s complex at Surprise, Arizona.[18]

I agree. Pete is getting hosed on the Hall. But, so long as that turd Selig occupies the Commissioner’s Chair Pete will be on the outside looking in.
Rosethreatened the good name of *****SPORTS*****
It’s as if he publicly cursed the Pope in centuries past.
/Also, don’t forget the undermining sports betting.
“Lotsa wife beaters in the Hall of Fame”.
Gotta admit, his logic is flawless.
Gambling almost ruined the sport. Pete knew that. I thought he was victim of a lynch mob, but I was wrong. I feel bad for him, but he broke rule #1.
Of course the idea that a pro player could take a bribe now is laughable. But it was a huge threat when the Reserve Clause kept the players poor.
I think the baseball hall of fame is hurt more by the exclusion of Rose, than Rose is hurt by being excluded from it.
Cheaters are in the HoF, yet Pete sits out for putting money on his team to win.
Like another posited, until Selig is gone, Pete sits out.
Maybe he should have picked “dog abuse”?
He’s ( and you are) absolutely right.
I think baseball should implement rules banning anyone using PEDs for life (or at the very least for 2nd time offenders). I think eventually we will get there, as the clean members of the players association seem to be fed up with the cheaters. Unfortunately, those are not currently the rules and the penalties were non-existent in the past.
Rose on the other hand broke a rule that he and every major leaguer KNOWS brings a lifetime ban from baseball. My undestanding is that signs are posted in every MLB clubhouse clearly stating that betting on games not involving your team gets your a 1 year suspension and betting on games involving your own team is a lifetime ban.
Rose has nobody to blame but HIMSELF. He should never be permitted to work in MLB again.
As for the HOF, I wouldn’t mind letting the baseball writers decide, though I tend to think he would not get enough votes anyway.
None of those vices, as bad as they are, threaten the very foundations of the game.
A quote from baseball reporter Hal McCoy: "the major problem with Rose betting on baseball, particularly the Reds, is that as manager he could control games, make decisions that could enhance his chances of winning his bets, thus jeopardizing the integrity of the game."
Rose's latest maneuver is to play some sort of pity card. Poor baby should have been downing shots instead of betting and then lying about it. I am not moved by that argument in the least.
Well Pete’s right. There are certain tabu’s in this world and betting on baseball is one of them.
OJ found out the hard way that causing a ruckus in a Vegas casino hotel room within the sports memorabilia circle is another tabu.
Cheating to do better is very different from letting the mob pick the winners of games. That is the inevitable outcome of betting on games.
If so, his ban should remain. If not they should allow him in.
In either case, he's correct to point out the flaws with today's athletes; the same problems are in most of the other sports as well.
Totally agree. I love baseball, but I don’t care to watch or hear about the accomplishments of mercenary drug-taking millionaires in ephemeral sporty clothing with my city’s name on it.
I don’t think he got a bum rap.
As a manager betting on baseball teams, one can rig things to either make good strategic moves to win or do really stupid moves to help lose, a game. And if yo ucan mess with the chances of your team winning or losing and you’re also betting on them, that’s even worse. It’s shades of the Black Sox when managers gamble on baseball games.
And don’t forget the years of denial Rose had, swearing he wasn’t gambling.
Sorry Pete. The fact he’s still got sour grapes over it, I personally don’t think he’s really sorry for doing it. Or even knows why it was a big deal.
He would have gotten a better deal from baseball, that’s for sure. The man can’t even buy a ticket!!!
Pete violated a rule that specifically says banned for life. The steroid crowd didn’t. Now maybe the rule book SHOULD say that for roids, but as of the time of their violations it didn’t and currently doesn’t.
