I had meth freak neighbors once - it was horrifying.

IMO, anyone who’s been exposed to real meth freaks could not have any interest in this show.

Meth is truly evil - it is Every Bad Thing. “Enjoying” a show about meth is like “enjoying” a show about Aushwitz.

The Sopranos wasn’t hideous enough - now you’ve got Breaking Bad, and you suck it up and feed your soul on its filth.

But hey, enjoy yourselves. Then go back to posting about conservative values on Free Republic, and wondering why things keep getting worse in America.

geez, dude...chill

it’s a TV show and it is remarkably well written and made

It does not glorify the topic at all, in fact it is shows clearly some of the more horrifying aspects of this lifestyle and the people in it

No one watching this would think “hey, I’d like to do that and be cool like walt”

And there are some heroes- Hank is amazing

Maybe you should move to Saudi Arabia or North Korea so you’d feel more comfortable. With your logic we’d have to ban half the Bible and most of Shakespeare.

Entertainment is supposed to be a diversion - an escape. Through novels, movies and TV shows, I experience things I would never experience in real life.

Watching a show about the Mafia (Sopranos) doesn't make me a mobster anymore than watching a documentary about Adolf Hitler makes me a Nazi. Once the show is over, I go back to my normal, mostly boring life of a middle-manager in a large corporation with a wife and 2.2 kids in a colonial home out in the leafy suburbs. So what's the harm in imagining myself as Don Draper, Tony Soprano or Walter White every once in a while?

TV and books would sure be boring if it reflected my actual life.

Unless you get a kick out of seeing a guy mow his lawn at home and fuss around with Excel spreadsheets in the office.

It’s not a show about meth. It’s a show about a guy that makes one bad decision and all the consequences. It’s about turning Mr Chips into Scarface (actual pitch line used to sell the show). It’s about a good guy becoming a bad guy. It’s also a really amazingly well written show. The show has plenty of conservative values, it’s a show about facing repercussions for bad actions, Walt will lose everything for one bad call, he’s already lost a lot. There’s very few things in the world more conservative than actions having consequences.

Meth is not evil, it is just a thing, like a gun. People are evil, like Walter White. White has always imagined himself to be decent as he descends into unimaginable reprobation.
