If I had any doubt at all that the USPS should be totally shut down, I have none at all now-a few days ago, I asked a company to send some samples of a really great looking exterior cement board I want my contractor compadre to look at.
The samples arrived yesterday, and I found a note in the mailbox from the letter carrier saying they would not fit in my mailbox, 3/4 of a mile away, and to come pick them up at the PO 16 miles away!
I called her this morning, and asked her to please leave it in the bin my neighbors and I put there for packages that we are going to pick right up. The woman informed me in a condescending voice that she does not deliver packages, only notices. I almost said listen, bitch, packages are in your job description, so bring my f’in package, now. Instead, I said if I wanted to drive nearly 40 miles round trip to pick up a package of samples, I would just have driven to the vendor in SA and picked the samples up myself-have you priced gas lately?
I bullied her into meeting me at the end of the road with my package on her way back to the PO after her shift is over later today. From now on, I will pay to use UPS and have any package brought TO MY GATE, whether it fits in the stupid mailbox or not-I definitely think the USPS needs to go-along with all these mail carriers who think they are too good to deliver packages...
I think that “legally” they are not allowed to put mail anywhere other than in a mailbox.
That said, if we get a largeish package, the mailman usually brings it to the porch. They actually make a special run before they do their regular route.
My niece asked if my daughter and I would meet her for lunch today since she was on this side of town and my nephew joined us. He is in the Army and was wearing his camo uniform and someone at the restaurant paid for our meal, all of us, 3 adults, a teenager, a toddler and a baby. I was so touched! I told them we don’t have a lot of military in this area but we do appreciate them and it was really nice to see it in action.
