A place called the Dismal Swamp, the town there was referred to as Frogtown.
These days it is known by a different name.
We call it Toledo, formerly the location of The Great Dismal Swamp and limberlost forests.
I read “A Girl of the Limberlost” once. Always wondered what a “limberlost” was.
We have a Great Dismal Swamp here in N.C., too.
Ummm... actually more often called the Great Black Swamp
Swamp bottom makes for good farmland.. Residents in the former swamp still pay a portion of their property tax to drain the swamp.
