that is so right on, it’s not even funny. Last summer at the JAX airport, en route to amelia island, we had to cool our heels and have lunch there at the airport because they were out of cars! No problem this time, we had a huge-@$$ed Expedition. I know both SG and Whyis have big behemoths like that, but dang, it sucks gas and it would not fit in our garage! i liked sitting up even higher in it, though. We needed it because we had luggage and 6 adults [five of us and xsteen’s bf], but on a day to day basis, we just don’t need something that big.
My lease is up in Feb i think and i will prob get another highlander. I like it, and my only requirement is something that will recognize my ipod without having to plug it in!

My sister had a similar problem on vacation in Nova Scotia. The company had to borrow a car from another rental firm at the airport for them.

I knew they wouldn’t get in until 1 or 2 am, based on when you told me they decided to drive, so its a good thing they stopped for the night. It will be 4 hours or so this AM, hopefully they’ll be there soon.
You gotta have your husband get flights that fly into Syracuse, not Binghamton, that’s the KEY to all of the flight cancellations, those flights cannot possibly be full. Like i said, i didn’t even know that Binghamton HAD an airport! there cannot be many flights in and out of there.

We had this GMC Yukon when we were in Jacksonville. Lots of room for 4 of us and our luggage.

You should enjoy the bluetooth integration, but it makes you want to be able to do more. If I can get calls on my phone through my car radio, I should also be able to do other things.

Like, the entire screen on the car should be able to be the same as your phone, so you can access everything. Of course, idiots will watch videos and cause accidents, so they probably don’t do that on purpose.

My car could read my text messages (if I had an Android phone), but would only allow me to send canned messages. No dictating, to avoid distractions.

The streaming audio only works with iphone and not android. So you have to choose.

I drive a tahoe, which is smaller than a suburban but still a big vehicle! I love riding in it but it isn’t the easiest thing to park....

It’s a good idea to check the location of the agency where you are renting. I like it when they are all in a row — cheek by jowl, Avis next to Hertz, next to Budget. The situation in San Francisco meant that we were just stuck. There was no way to slip down to the next guy to get a better car, or a better price.

My Suburban is smaller than an Expedition, which I don’t think would fit in my garage either. I love my silver bullet. Room for everything and I get to sit up high. It is the lowest maintenance vehicle we own.

Indeed. You want to rent from one at the airport.

My husband just told me something that might be the cause of not having a car available for some: He was traveling a lot last year, which qualified him for some kind of executive level for rental cars - which meant he didn’t even go to the desk to check out a car. He would have made a reservation ahead of time but he got to just go to the lot and pick out anything he wanted and they handled the transaction as he was leaving the lot.

Well, their ad was misleading as to their location. This time we’ll be renting at the airport and arriving at noon. Let’s just hope they have cars. Because of the cost, we have to take a small one. We’ll see how my knee works with THAT!

Never give up the truck/SUV/4X4, ever...

Having driven a Suburban, Blazer, and now a 4Runner after 3 years of driving a little car, I have to say I’m happier in a 4X4, gas and parking considerations and all...

Yeah, my company has a deal with Budget and we all get that treatment. If it’s available at the location, that is.

Whenever I go to Houston, I just go to the area for my size car and pick what I want.

Regardless, I still need a reservation. That shouldn’t affect the number of cars they have. I am sure they run like the airlines do — they count on a certain percentage of people not showing up for whatever reason and overbook.

I feel the same way, although we have smaller crossover SUVs. Being up higher and not having to stoop and contort to get in and out makes us never going back to a sedan. If I had a bigger family (or bigger hauling needs), I’d buy a bigger SUV.

I’m glad your baby will be nicely rested, so you can have a great time.

Whatever lies get promoted now
It really just doesn’t matter
The drive-by media isn’t smart
But they do know how to chatter

People are rendered mostly deaf
From hearing this crap before-
The words are stale and done
And the messengers are a bore

The roseate vision of utopia
The emperor has been selling
Is being packaged yet again
With contents ripe and smelling...

Last night, I got nailed by a scorpion the cats had cornered by the door-apparently, it scurried in with Husky girl and I when we came in from a walk. It stung the sole of my foot under my big toe. I have very thick foot soles from going barefoot all my life when at home, inside or out-so it wasn’t a big deal-I put topical benedryl and a paste of water and meat tenderizer on it right away, then sat down with ice on it for an hour, so it never swelled much.

That said, I’ve been stung and bitten so many times since childhood, by so many icky things, I probably should keep oral benedryl around-while I have developed quite a tolerance over the years, I’ve read that things can still happen-you can’t be too safe, I suppose...

i do have bluetooth, i can talk on the phone without plugging it in. It just doesn’t wirelessly recognize the music on my iphone. Honestly, neither of us knew his did at first either. i was driving it for the first few months and somehow pressed a button and suddenly MY music was playing, and i couldn’t even figure out at first what it was, it wasn’t the radio, bc my eclectic music mix is not played on any station, so i was like HOLY CRAP that’s my ipod playing and i didn’t even plug it in! when we drove to williamsburg we programmed my phone in as well as his and could go back and forth between our ipods. Easier to do when you have a passenger/copilot. i don’t know all that his lexus does, but it has a mouse etc. He has used the live person assistance, i forget for what though.

i am such a beast at parking, i am proud of myself. i find it easier to back into most spaces than to go in frontwards for some reason. and i can parallel park well too. i swear it’s self-taught over the years bc i wasn’t good at it in drivers ed! i used to have to parallel park on an incline in my parking garage for years. that sort of honed the skill i think.
