Whatever happened to loving thy neighbor?

An unidentified Iowan woman — “Crazy rhubarb lady,” as the Internet hath dubbed her — has rocketed to online infamy this week when video appeared online of her shouting a long string of profanities at a homeowner who caught her removing rhubarbs from a patch that had found its way outside the limits of a fence.

Apparently “Crazy Rhubarb Lady” has made a habit of plucking rhubarb from a neighbor’s patch, and has been confronted multiple times, but only when the cameras are rolling does the public get a glimpse into the hilarity of a woman cursing out two other adults over a leafy plant.

“This is alley property, b*tch!” the woman yells at a woman off-camera. “This don’t have your name on it. Where’s your name, b*tch? Where’s your name?”

She continued to lash out at the other woman: “You stick your nose in everyone’s business.”

“If it’s anybody’s property, why don’t you come up and mow it?” the off-camera woman asks. The answer: Because of the “Iranian pigs” who live in the area and stole her lawnmower.

The verbal battle continued for at least five minutes, with Rhubarb Lady calling her accuser a “lezzie” for addressing her as “sweetheart.”

We hope the rhubarb was really worth it.

The woman is nuts, and yet if the rhubarb is growing out side the fence, it does not belong to anyone.

I agree that the rhubarb is probably up for grabs, but just because the lady was so odious, I would have turned the garden hose on her.

It all depends on the relevant by-laws. Around here, people are encouraged to improve boulevards fronting their property, by planting flowers, low shrubs, vegetables, etc. You don't own the boulevard; but you do own the vegetation. You are also required to mow the grass (if any), or pay the city to do it for you. That said, if you plant vegetables on land easily accessed by pedestrians, you should probably expect some losses.

If I was that husband I would have turned my hand mower on and started in on that alley garden...

Now that’s what I call a rhubarb.

Actually, a fence doesn’t necessarily mark the property line. I have over a 1/4 of an acre that sits outside my fence line.

That woman is as crazy as a loon but is right. The owners should have kept the plant inside the fence.

This has the fingerprints of a neighborhood feud that’s been going on a LONG time.

...or just spray the whole rhubarb plant with deer musk and let that crazy lady enjoy it the next time she roots around in the rhubarb.

We’ve had people treat us that way when we confront them for tress passing to take asparagus that grows 100 feet from the road or apples from our trees. I gave up personally calling them on it. Just never know what kind of wack job you are going to run into.

I just get the license plate now and have them ticketed for tress passing. We have never refused requests if they come to the house and ask. I hate people that think things are there
For their free pickings. I consider it theft. I guess it’s all part on the entitlement mentality now days.

If the fence is actually the property line for the people growing it.

I can’t imagine that she’s married. If so, the man must be deaf.

Here your property line starts 33 feet from the center of a right of way. The fence was most likely required by zoning to be off the property line by 5 or 10 feet.
