I wasn’t born in Memphis, but I have lived here 42 years. It is still GREAT place to raise a family. QUIT BAD MOUTHING MEMPHIS EVERY CHANCE THAT YOU GET!
To: EEGator
Memphis is a great place to live and raise a family. The only place that has violent crime are those two small areas. What would a Easterner know about Memphis? .

4) its only a hop, skip and a jump to Grant Park and East Atlanta, two areas full of gentrifying gen X and gen Y hipsters. No,thanks. LOL, I was one of those. Husband and I lived right ON Moreland Ave! For security we resorted to fostering Doberman Pinschers, no joke. Nearly bought a house on Lucille Ave in the West End (we are obsessive about bungalows and found one in nearly pristine unrenovated condition) but decided we just weren't that avant garde (or stupid). Let the gays do the serious pioneering.
Now we're in Flyover Country and say "Never again!" Having been raised in the safe confines of preppyville New England and spent considerable time in the south I just don't understand how southerners can stand to subject themselves to that constant, pervasive threat level. Why put up with it????

Well, I am sorry to have offended you.
I just call it as I saw it, and from what friends tell me. I left before the blacks took over all of the government.
Is it not true that the MLGWD was split up and sold off to out of state companies? Maybe that was just a rumor.
No doubt, many of the suburban neighborhoods are still nice.
I was raised in The Village, and my parents lived there till they died.
Oh, don’t feel like I singled out Memphis. I bad mouth everything in today’s USSA, haha.
It may get people to wake up and take back the country.

Perry Homes and Bankhead was moved down to Clayton County when the Olympics came in 96.
Now Clayton County (yes, of the notorious cheating scandal as was as Atl. Public Schools-same teachers) is similar to those areas. Southlake Mall is a place to just get robbed.

Worked on Moreland Ave for 3 years back in late 80’s, early 90’s. It was an adventure.

I have been in some really really bad areas of Atlanta in my past (East Lake Meadows,Red Oak, Hollywood Courts,Bowen Homes,Perry Homes,Techwood, the Bluff,Cabbagetown,Boat Rock, Herndon Homes,Capitol Homes,Dixie Hills, etc.),but the only one I where I was really in fear was Bankhead Courts. So exactly how long have you been dealing crack, anyway?

When I lived near Atlanta (well, hour trip in rural era south of Atlanta) we would still take day trips to LFPs. Love Wax and Facts and miss The Vortex now that I am down in South Florida. Best Buffalo burger in the WORLD!

Why am I not surprised by this. Maybe—just maybe—some—a wee bit—of what the KKK people said about blacks was partly true? What if that freedom thing wasn’t a good things for blacks or whites? Maybe blacks need to be controled some way?
To: To Hell With Poverty
North of Ponce and you’re OK. Just outside the Perimeter north in my case. Those guys stick out like a sore thumb out here. But yeah, it’s an issue for sure.

Reading Free Republic is how I became aware years ago of the ethnic cleansing of L.A by the Hispanics against the Blacks. A 15 - 20 year process, from what I’ve read.
You sure never heard about it from the Six O’clock News.
