Russia will not suspend anti-gay legislation for 2014 Sochi Olympic Games Despite pleas from the International Olympic Committee, the country says it cannot put its gay propaganda ban on hold. The law in effect makes it illegal to be homosexual and athletes and coaches face arrest and deportation.
Vitaly Milonov, who co-sponsored the law that has been rolled out across Russia, said it would be impossible to "selectively enforce or suspend" the rules.
"It is acting in accordance with Russian law," he told Interfax.
The IOC, however, is continuing to campaign against the move, reports the Huffington Post.
"Sport is a human right and should be available to all regardless of race, sex or sexual orientation," a spokesman said in a statement.
It said the games should be "free of discrimination" and revealed the organization would "oppose in the strongest terms any move that would jeopardize this principle."
That is a bald-faced lie. After that, I think it fair to discount whatever this "reporter" writes on any subject.
It’d be fun, though.
The professional homosexualists are boycotting Russian vodka over this law, and I expect President Gay Marriage to pander to his base, pull a Jimmuh Carter and boycott the Russky Olympics.
Let’s hope the Ruskies stand strong on this. What a shame our country won’t.
If the olympics were held in a mooselimb country that actively stoned gays, no one would whine on the gay lobby side....
Not a single one I bet....
But if I were a goat or a dancing boy near the olympic village I would be scared as hell...
When it comes to human rights, you can’t beat them Russians.
My dad had some good old timey expressions
How do you bed a woman “by accident”?
You should ask local pool man or gardener.
