Eisenhower’s appeal to the Italian people shows his brilliance as a leader. It’s short, simple and directly to the point that would hit every raw Italian nerve. It offered an end to the war, no harsh terms, return of the POWs, and put the onus on the Germans, who by now are fairly well hated by most Italians.
Maybe if the Germans hadn’t acted like such assholes they wouldn’t be in this bind in Italy. But I guess that violates my “rules of alternate history.” You can’t have an alternate history scenario that involves the Germans not being the Germans.
