I’ve been an NRA member since 1989 and have probably received a couple tons of junk mail from them in that time. I keep hoping that they’ll join the 21st century and switch to spam, but they’re not exactly a cutting edge organization.
It’s part of their modus operandi and has been for a while. One wonders how much money they waste with all their junk mailings.
Mail order brides?
There is a simple solution. The next time you receive junk mail from them and it includes a remittance envelope, stuff all they sent you into that remittance envelope and send it back to them at their cost with a note informing them you will be returning to them everything they send you in the same manner in the future. I did that years ago and have not received a single piece of Junk mail since.
I don’t get any significant snail mail from them but I have gotten myriads of legislative alerts and discount offers on this or that. I unsubscribed from everything except for the alerts and my inbox has quieted down substantially.
Some of the product merchandisers will attempt to get you on the hook, so it's best not to respond to any offers too good to be true. If you are going to respond, look for the real agenda.
Even though I'm not a member, I'm having more problems with crap from the AARP.
‘Never been a joiner, myself....
Google is not oyur friend but is useful.

BTW I am told the phone call is the best route.
I think you might be blaming the NRA for things that have nothing to do with them.
I can see them sending out gun rights related mail, but I don’t think they sell their mailing list to others.
Others may have gotten your address/phone number other ways.
But all that is easily avoidable - it’s easy enough to throw out junk mail. As for phone calls — sign up for caller ID and get yourself an actual physical answering machine (not central voice mail). This will allow you to monitor your phone calls, not pick up junk calls, but not miss legitimate calls, as you can hear them leaving the message on your answering machine and can pick up the phone, if you want to talk to the caller.
Instead of being upset, SOLVE the problem.
And don’t blame the NRA.
Expect the NRA, and all other orgaization the socialists hate, to be infiltrrated to the gills with enemy action.
I tried an experiment today with one of our shooter’s groups. It was.. instructive:

Chill out. You can go to your profile and select to opt out. But jeez, if you order ANYTHING online you get on email lists. If you have EMAIL you get spammed.
Just delete the spam and trash the junk mail. Ain’t no big deal.
Junk mail keeps the post office in business. Spam keeps your psychiatrist in business.
I told them I would donate to them on an annual basis, if I could afford it, and not to waste their money on postage. sending me ads. They’ve been pretty good about it too, to me, anyway. They send me a renewal notice every once in awhile, and thats about it. My wife is also a member, and she didn’t tell them to limit the mail, and she gets quite a bit.
At least the NRA is out there trying to protect your 2nd ammendment rights. Junk mail is a daily burden. The NRA doesn’t send out any more of it than any other company. I don’t care if they send me something every day in the mail. I’m glad everytime I hear from the NRA. I love having that sticker on my car. I have not heard that they sell your info to the internet.
Wayne LaPierre is out there on TV taking the heat for you every week. How many of us would go on TV and defend our gun rights to the left wing loons everyday? Would you be happier if the NRA just disbanded and gun confiscation began? There’s a war going on out there quit crying about junk mail. Jeeez!
It’s a bit OT, but I gave Gun Owners of America my email and they have been very minimal and to the point with their mailings. Kinda impressed with their usage of the medium, especially in contrast to some other organizations out there. Coming from one who tends to keep an almost empty inbox.
I went through the same frustrating harassment from them when I joined about seven years ago. It took about six months of repeated, escalating, strident communications, and then finally electronic barriers for them to start leaving me alone. Never again.
But writing long angry letters to them isnt going to help, its only going to go in their general mail bin along with letters from kooks (trust me, I once worked for a public library in their fund raising dept and you wouldnt believe some of the letters I got; some were funny and some were downright threatening and disturbing, some we couldnt even make any sense of). Do what mad_as_he$$ suggested call them and follow the instructions for opting out. Be calm and be polite but be firm and clear that you want to opt out. And dont be surprised or frustrated if it takes a couple of weeks.
But as others have said, some of the phone calls and emails and junk mail you are receiving may have nothing to do with the NRA. Unfortunately spammers and junk mailers have lots of inventive ways of getting you on their mailing lists.
For instance, about ten years ago when I was purchasing a house, I found an error on my credit report by one of the major credit reporting companies that had my DOB wrong, I was only 40 but they had me as being over 60. That explained all the junk mail I got from the AARP and retirement communities and other offers for the oldster crowd. LOL! I got Experian to correct my credit report but I still kept getting the junk mail. And since the purchase of a home, i.e. a deed transfer is public record (as are births, marriages, divorces, bankruptcies, etc.), for months after I bought my house I was bombarded with junk mail directed at home improvements and re-fi offers, credit cards and such. Also if you have a credit card, take look at their privacy policies and opt out of special offers. Also look at any other orgs you belong to as well as any store loyalty cards you might have in your wallet and check out their privacy policies and opt out options.
Also try this:
Stopping Unsolicited Mail, Phone Calls, and Email
And FWIW, I dropped my land line years ago and have never regretted it. And I never give my cell phone number out to anyone I dont personally know or absolute have to¸ especially merchants who ask for a phone number at the checkout they will tell you they dont use if for solicitations or sell your information but dont believe them. They will use your land line number to get your home address and will use and or sell that information along with your purchasing preferences and you will soon be inundated with junk mail and or phone calls.
If you REALLY want to get pissed off at junk mail, try subscribing to Reader’s Digest....we did a couple of years ago, under a slight variation of wifey’s name - so we know the sh*t all originates from there.
