The party who supported slavery in the 19th century, and their GOP enablers, has updated the institution. Now it's even better, instead of the slave holder bearing the costs of feeding , housing and care for the slaves, the taxpayer does it. The slave masters get cheap labor. It's a win /win for everyone but the American middle class taxpayer. As always, they take it on the chin.

Ever think what would happen, politically, if a President were to "vet" political opponents? Isn't there some sort of scandal being investigated in D.C. about that sort of thing right now?

That said...these "control freaks" come in all shapes and sizes, nationalities..with all different ideologies and rarely seem to agree on much of anything, judging by the ebb and flow of global events.
The freaks are simply anyone or group of people with enough power and money to buy stuff/people and pressure governments. The fact that what they do is private(secret) is because it is in fact private what people do with their own money. $oro$ comes to mind as an example..he owns/controls a huge amount of the leftists "foundations and organizations".

Yes. Think of the vetting process as a sentinel to ensure that NO Enemy of the People with a shady, subversive past and agenda is the CiC. Or else we may just have ourselves ruled by a Dictator. (Little late in that count, aren't we?)
As to the possible "scandal" involved, the vetting of ANY possible Presidential candidate (under "normal" circumstances) ought to have been a given to some degree, don't you think? What if...say...a candidate has presented himself a clear and present danger to the Constitution? (whoops -- too late for that as well.)
Frankly, the real "scandal" has been how the USA has elected and re-elected subversives in the last 20 years.
